Elara's pov The morning sun spilled golden light across the kitchen, catching the steam rising from the freshly baked bread. I hummed my favorite song " unethical by faouzia " while stirring the honey into my tea, my wolf sapphire paddled lightly in my mind, stretching and rolling like a cat. " This b***h can be annoying sometimes" I said smiling. " I heard that" sapphire replied. "I know, I wanted you to" I said in a mocking smile. My mom bustled past, carrying a basket of flowers. " Elara could you help me with these? And don't forget your sister is expecting you outside.” She said her warm gentle, threaded with laughter. " I'm coming". I screamed placing mug on the counter. I felt sapphire lean forward to sniff the scent of bread, honey and flower with delight. "Trying to get my little whirlwind to stay still for breakfast, are you?". I jumped startled, "dad you scared me, could have pissed my pants or something, maybe even have a heart attack". I said pouting I heard him chuckling and I smiled. Dad's tall, like way taller than me and broad too, he definitely didn't get that from mom. I mean mom is all graceful and petite, and dad's well built like his a linebacker but somehow still moves like he's not trying. I think I got my legs from him but not his arm. "Well thank goodness, I mean imagine me with long legs and arms, I will be looking like the aliens on the movie stranger things, well that's a relief. Don't get be started on how mum behaves like a fan girl anytime he passes by, don't get me wrong it's cute and kinda creepy all at once "Gosh i literally just got goosebumps" "Elara i thought I asked you to help me out here" mom screamed making her way to me with a glare. "s**t Sherlock I absolutely forgot mom asked for help, she looks so mad right now " I thought giving her a nervous laugh. I get scared of mom at times can't really explain the feeling. "Honey" mom said looking towards dad and there's the sparkle in her eyes as she start fangirling again making me roll my eyes, at least I'm not in trouble anymore, shaking my head as I started heading outside to meet liora my younger sister, that's their thing it's ridiculous but it's kinda perfect. " wish I've found my mate already". I thought feeling a bit sad. I have passed the age I'm meant to meet my mate, normally werewolves find their mate at the age of 16, I'm already 21 "Sapphire what if we don't have a mate". I mumbled silently. "Don't say that I'm sure mates out there somewhere" Sapphire says "The moon goddess has a mate for every wolf remember?, so you better not jinx it for us pup or say something crazy like what if he's dead". Sapphire growled with an I dare you to say something else tone and I scoffed, like she can do anything, am I right?. "Yeah, yeah wonder what got your panties in a twist" I said "Sweetheart you're the one wearing the panties not me" Sapphire said with a smirk, cutting of the mindlink and treating to the back of my mind before I could give reply, guess she got the last word. I thought rolling my eyes The sun filtered through the trees golden beams, warming the frozen forest floors. Laughter echoed around the clearing, Light and easy kind of laughter the belongs to a pack and a family. I saw my sister liora playin with her friend Rosie the beta's daughter and yeah I know what's on your mind , I'm an Alpha's daughter. Liora looked up and saw me, she waved the paper she held on her hands " Elara Look what I drew!, isn't it amazing?". She pressed the crumpled,colorful paper into my hands. I smiled and hugged her " it's perfect you've outdone yourself this time" Sapphire purred contentedly " I like this, this is the life we belong to, being safe and loved. Rosie came running to show off her drawing too, " oh they are so cute, could literally eat them up". "Elara,Liora lunch is ready and bring Rosie along with you guys" mom called voice gentle but firm. "Race you both to the kitchen". I screamed as I started running. I darted through the snow, behind me were two young pups, yipping and tripping over roots as sapphire howled in delight in my head. " Quiet down b***h, you're going to give me a headache literally" Sapphire scoffed "You know you love me" she says with a wolfy grin. "Faster Rosie faster, elara is about to win". Liora screamed at Rosie. " I said faster". Liora tumbled into the snow with a yelp and i doubled back, helping her up. "Cheater" liora said giggling snow dusting her hair. " you pushed me" she said with a pout and Rosie giggled. "You fell because you can't keep up" I said teasing her while ruffling her hair. "Accept it, I'm faster, stronger and smarter". I said sticking my tongue out "No fair". Liora shouted pouting and I laughed bending seamlessly as I held her shoulder, "Life isn't fair little wolf, but don't worry you will learn". I glanced back at the pack, heart swelling. There was this warmth here I didn't even know i craved. The elders were gathered around the fire, telling stories of past pack victories. Even the grumpy Beta, old and crusty, smiled faintly at the chaos in the clearing. This was my world. My family. My pack. My home. I made my way inside with Rosie and liora. Liora barreled in bursting the kitchen door open. "Liora careful that's not ladylike" mom scolded her. "Elara come help me set the tables" my mom called from the kitchen. I made my way to the kitchen grabbing a couple of utensils which I placed accordingly on the table. "Breakfast is ready everyone, come sit before it gets cold". I took my place at the table, feeling the warmth of family pressing from each sides. I reached for the bread buttered perfectly, and paused for a moment, eyes closed. "I love this " I whispered, quiet enough for only Sapphire to hear. " yeah we do " she whispered back. Liora's tiny feet don't quite reach the chair, causing her swings them back and forth while hugging her cup with both hands. "Careful liora. It's warm" mom said panicking frantically. " I know, I'm a big girl now". Liora replied and dad chuckled. "She said that yesterday right before spilling juice everywhere" Rosie said teasing. " that was an accident" liora defended pouting, her face red from embarrassment. I laughed softly and slide a napkin closer to liora anyways. "Here little wolf, just in case". " I want pancakes" liora said. " I support that Pancake agenda" Rosie added, liora giggled, then tilts her head towards me. I used the remaining hours making small conversation with dad about the pack rogue situation till the end of lunch. I headed into the kitchen to take care of the dishes but stumbled upon mom and dad. Dad tall as always, making a mess with crumbs everywhere. Somehow he still looks young, even with a bit of gray at the sides, and Mom's staring at him like she's seeing a movie star. "Still got it," she says, all dreamy. Dad leans down, kisses her cheek. "Ugh, gross can you guys not do that while I'm here". They both laughed I sit there, trying not to roll my eyes too hard as dad continues to be mischievous . He's strong, a little ridiculous, kind of perfect in his own messy way… and I guess that's where I got a few of my best bits too. Beta Andrew came in looking for dad, as they both stare at each other I felt dad's body stiffened and his face grew tensed "They are obviously using their mindlink" making me whine cause my curiosity is getting the best of me Dad stood up and they both left in a hurry with serious looks on both their faces, I guess it's an urgent situation. After I was done handling the dishes. I went out and sat by the fire, my wolf purred beneath my skin, relaxed, happy. Watching liora play tag with Rosie brought a smile on my face, snowflakes drifting lazily through the trees, their laughter ringing in the air.
