Chapter 2: Night of ashes

Elara's pov

I woke up to a sound of screams, echo and cries of help. The scent of smoke drifting through the air. I stood up from my bed, my fingers trembling as chills ran down my spine.

" what the heck is happening?" I mumbled.

" Are we under an attack ?" Sapphire asked, we both looking confused and terrified.

I scrambled on my feet dashing down the stairs to the front of the pack house. It was chaos, pack members were running, screaming, some with children In their hands. They were dead bodies everywhere, I was beyond shocked. Rogues crashing into the clearing like a storm, sliver fangs bared, eyes red from bloodlust.

"Liora" I called looking around for my sister but got no reply, I ran aimlessly to her room. "Liora" I waited anxiously for a response, my wolf whimpering at the thought of something bad happening to her.

"Elara" I heard a faint whisper and rushed into her room, I found her hiding behind the door, shaking vigorously with fear in her eyes.

"Elara what's going on?, where's mom and dad?" She asked curiously. "Little wolf I'm sure mom and dad are okay and they should be around the pack house, but I seriously don't know what the f**k is going on". I said irritated

Liora gasped with a shocked expression and both hands on her mouth. " Elara you said a bad word I'm gonna tell mom when I see her" I chuckled, she really is something.

"Oh yeah mom"I said as I tried mind linking. "Mom" I called out, waiting for a reply. "Elara where are you sweetie?, is you sister there with you I can't find her". Her voice panicked. " yes mom liora's here with me, I didn't realize it but tears were running down my eyes. I was crying.

"Elara now isn't the time to sulk and be weak, we need to stay strong for liora ". Sapphire said.

I looked over to my sister and met her innocent gaze and I gave her a smile as I bent down towards her and whispered " little wolf mummy said the pack are playing hide and seek, I know you love hide and seek I do too, you want to join them, don't you?" She nodded excited making me feel bad for lying to her." I want you to hide under the bed, be really quiet till I or mom come find you, don't move till you sure it's me or mom or we are gonna lose the game, I'm sure you don't want us to lose little wolf" I said giving her cheek a squeeze and she giggled cutely.

" Elara are we going to get lots of candy when we win?" She asked with a curious grin.

Before I could answer a rogue wolf crashed into liora's bedroom window. "Liora" I shouted,lunging to protect my sister."let my take over"sapphire said and immediately I felt my bones cracking shifting into my wolf( sapphire is black with white tail). " I'm going shred him to pieces, the nerve they have to attack our pack"sapphire growled snapping her teeth at the rogue.

" Heck yeah, I don't care if I die, I'll die with honor defending the people I love and care about" I added. I heard heavy footsteps approaching, thinking it was another rogue. I turned around to snap at it but saw my mom's wolf Claire running towards us and Immediately nudge my sister behind her snapping her teeth at the rogue.

I brought my focus back to the rogue and started circling it growling and barring my fangs toward it before lunging and biting down on its shoulder, he took that opportunity to bite down my leg. I shook him off, I attacked again and he dodged it easily forcing a growl from me. I lunged towards him again this time with a strategy in mind, knowing fully well that he'll dodge and move towards the right like he did previously, I turned to my left and caught him by the neck ripping out chunks of his throat with my teeth. The rogue fell down with a thud.

" Elara help grab some clothes so I can change back, I need to take liora to the safe house". Mom mindlink me and I did just that grabbing a pair of shorts and a sport bra with my teeth and headed toward her. Mom changed into the clothes, clutching onto liora tightly as we headed outside. I saw my dad, beta Andrew and the pack warriors charging with a fury of a thousand wolves, snapping, biting and ripping rogues apart while more rogues closed in on them, for every rogue the dawned, two more came.

My wolf surged beneath my skin, the world spun in red and white, snow mixed with blood. I felt my stomach turn as I shivered In disgust and fear. I froze, my feet refused to move, I felt like I was being pinned down by my sleep paralysis demon again. I was too distracted to notice a rogue charging towards me.

" Elara" mom shouted pushing me out of the way, the rogue sinking it's teeth into mom's shoulder, and the scream that followed tore through my soul. Everything was happening so fast and slow all at once, couldn't wrap my head around it. Mom gave me a smile with tears in her eyes as the rogue ripped through her neck.

"NOOOOOOOO!" I screamed running towards her.

" mom, mom please don't do this" my hands shaking as I cupped her face, I used my thumbs to wipe the tears from her face, her skin is already growing cold and I panicked. "Hey, hey look at me mom please, keep your eyes on me, your going to be fine". I said. " I will take you to the pack doctor, his going to fix this, his going to fix you, you hear me?, you have to keep them open".

Mom's lashes flustered, she's making efforts to keep it open which is clearly costing her everything. A faint smile tugged at her lips anyway, soft, gentle and familiar, like the reassuring ones that she gives me when I was scared as a child.

" I'm here" she whispered her voice barely there, more breath than sound. " I love you guys" mom murmured softly I almost missed it".

"We love you more mom" I said desperately with tears dripping on the floor, I pressed my forehead into hers "you're not allowed to go, me, liora and dad we all need you, I don't know how I could ever live without you" I said with my voice cracking at each sentence.

" please just stay, just for a little longer". I cried

"Mom" I whispered, I waited one second, two for a ray of hope anything at all, my breath hinged as my hand tightened but there was no answer. My wolf whispered as I let out a scream of pain and horror. I screamed so much my throat went numb.

I heard a howl of pain, dad felt his mate bond sever, he felt his mate death, his wolf felt it too, the pack felt their Luna's death, we all did.

"Elara what's wrong with mummy?" A small voice whispered behind me bringing me back to reality.

" mom?”

“why isn't she waking up?" She said shaking her body. I flinched and turned to see Liora looking at me for answers with face wet from tears. She fully didn't understand yet and my heart broke at the sight.

"Little wolf, come here, it's okay I've got you".

Liora looked up at me with red, swollen eyes. Her legs were shaking as she took a step closer, still glancing back at mom's body like she expected her to wake up any minute now.

" mummy's just sleeping right?"she whispered

I opened my arms to pull her in, that was when it happened. A shadow moved behind her too fast, too quiet. "Liora" my sister turned at the sound of my scream confused. I saw her head being snapped by the rogue whom I forgot was there, letting my guard down.

"No,no,no" I ran to Liora dropping on my knees while gathering her small body into my arms.

"I'm here "I sobbed

"I've got you, I won't let go little wolf " her body was limp in my arms.

Another howl tore through my chest for the second time, my wolf's pain was felt through the Pack. I'm sure dad felt it too.

I rocked my sister back and forth not believing she's gone,clutching and screaming her name with tears in my eye. My brain refusing to process what's going on, I felt sapphire erupt inside me.

"KILL" she snarled tearing through my lungs

"HE TOOK THEM FROM US, TEAR HIM APART, RIP HIM INTO PIECES , MAKE HIM PAY " she says her voice filled with rage

That thought wasn't her's alone, rage consumed me, combined with an unstoppable burning of grief . My hands trembled, claws unsheathing mid air, my body moving before I even realized it. The rogue looked at me with a wolfy smirk obviously enjoying my pain.

"Big mistake".

I lunged towards him hitting him across the face with my claw. His body tumbled hitting the wall knocking out his air supply.

" No mercy " sapphire says

"We won't show him any mercy after what he has done" I added

I leapt towards him aiming for his neck, he countered my attack instantly. Fangs met fangs, and my wolf growled in delight and fury. I twisted snapping my jaw towards its throat and he snarled at me. I could feel the metallic taste of this blood, sapphire laughed enjoying every bit of the pain his going through. That's all I need for him to trash around while his life flashes before his very eyes. I snapped my jaw shut around it's throat, he struggles In panic but I adjusted my grip sinking my teeth deeper, crushing harder until he collapsed beneath my bite.

"We did it" sapphire says and I hummed

I looked over to my mom and sister sobbing which caused sapphire to whimper in response. I heard rustling noise from the trees and I turned my head swiftly to see dad coming out behind the tree

Not fast.

Not strong.

But broken, his face was twisted with pain as he searched for his mate with his eyes. His breathing was hard. Then his eyes landed on her.

Mum

He stopped, colors drained from his face, his mouth fell open.

" No " he whispered

He stumbled forward and dropped to his knee beside her." Please… please don't do this to me"

Dad screamed, a howl so full agony it made my vision blurry with tears. Then he lifted his eyes and saw liora, her curls tangled around her face. She looked Like she had fallen asleep mid-step. Dad Froze, his eyes widened his face showing complete disbelief.

"No" his voice came on broken

" No- not my little pup" his face twisted in pure agony, Jaws trembling uncontrollably.

I couldn't believe that man before my very eyes was my dad, I have never seen him like this. He raised him head and looked at me with love, terror and grief written all over him.

" Elara " he said hoarsely

" you have to run" I shook my head, tears blinding my vision. I can't leave without him, leaving him to fight for the pack alone. His all I have left.

"Dad"

"I can't loose you too" he whispered. Being the stubborn she wolf I was, I obviously refused leaving without him.

"Dad I want to stay and fight for the pack along side you, beta Andrew and the warrior. We could win this, we've lost too much to back down or for me to run off now" I said determined

I know it sounds crazy but I have already lost too much to run with my tails behind my legs like a coward, I'm an Alphas daughter not a coward.

"Run" he said but this time louder with an alpha tone leaving no room for an argument. My wolf and I whimpered unable to go against an Alpha command, so I ran leaving everything behind.

I looked back at the place I once called home, my heart ached like it would shatter, I saw my dad shifting into his wolf getting ready to fight.

I had lost everything in just one night.
