A woman his age with purple hair was tanning. A man who surfed with Cove pressed his lips against her cheek before jumping into the water. Ciaran fidgeted, noticing how the adults viewed him. Cove ignored them, certain they would adjust to Ciaran’s presence. “Touch the water,” Cove instructed, running into the water. Small waves crashed against his legs. The waves were gentle, and the water calm. Ciaran glared at him. “I’m not going to be shark food. I refuse to die that way. Let Arian take me,” Ciaran countered, standing far away from the shore.
