Chapter 8
Rachel's POV
We drove for a while and he seems to be slowing towards the Palace in our Country, but what would we be doing here? Why are there so many reporters? At least we have tinted windows and they aren't paying us much attention. They must be here for the people inside of the palace.
I looked at Mr Wallaby and he looked nervously through the car view mirror. "Listen, I need you to stay calm and I wish I didn't have to tell you this in the car, but I have no choice." He took a second. "Very bad people are after you. The disguise for Mrs Ellis worked so well that they thought you were in the car they drove in."
I started looking alarmed. "Wha- what are you trying to say?
Mr Wallaby took a deep breath as I braced myself for what I am about to hear. "They were in a car crash... and they did not make it. Now I need you-"
My mind went blank. I stopped listening to what he was saying. It felt like the world started spinning in slow motion and I was going to be sick. I started hearing my name being repeated as if someone is trying to get my attention. I felt the car stopping and as soon as I heard the door opening it's like the world has stopped standing still and everything came into view again all at once. I couldn't breathe... I needed to get out of this car. I don't care where I just needed to leave. I opened my car door and I just bolted!
I heard my name being called but I didn't care and ran into the gardens of the palace. I did not care that I was in the palace's gardens or that my life was in danger, I just couldn't breathe and needed to be away from everyone and everything happening at the moment. Everywhere was bushes that was neatly trimmed into waves of shapes and I saw hedges trimmed in a triangle where there was a tree in the middle. I saw a tiny entry where I decided to hide.
As I entered a man was sitting there. I was so alarmed and hoped he wouldn't bring attention to us. I can't be swarmed with people right now. I needed time. I was out of breath. "Please... where can I hide. I just need to be alone for a few minutes to clear my head."
The man looked surprised to say the least and we heard footsteps running in our direction that caught his attention. He put his finger on his lips trying to make sure we stay quiet.
