Chapter 39: The Turning of the War

643 Words
The northern plains thrummed with power. Wind tore across the battlefield, carrying the scent of smoke and scorched earth, but the darkness that had shrouded the plains began to retreat. Silver light radiated from Alina’s body, pushing back the shadows like a rising tide. Lycan soldiers froze, staring in awe. The Moon-Bound had returned. Behind her, the ancient guardians—Lunaris, the silver wolf of the moon, and Thalor, the colossal sea serpent rising from the shattered ground—stood ready. Their presence alone transformed the battlefield. For the first time since the war began, hope surged through the Lycan army. Kael forced himself upright, pain lancing through his body. But when he saw Alina standing there, bathed in silver light, relief flooded his chest. “You… made it,” he muttered quietly, voice strained. Alina’s glowing eyes softened as she saw him alive, then shifted skyward. Dravoryx hovered above, wings spanning like storm clouds, golden eyes gleaming with cruel amusement. “Well, well…” His voice rolled like thunder. “The Moon-Bound returns to the battlefield.” Alina stepped forward, silver aura pulsing brighter. “You sought to test my power,” she said calmly, but every word rang with steel. “Now you will face it.” Dravoryx chuckled, a deep, ominous sound. “Oh, I fully intend to.” Before he could strike, Lunaris surged forward. The silver wolf moved with blinding speed, launching himself at the Devourer with a roar that echoed across the plains. Their collision tore through the sky, silver energy and dark fire exploding outward. Thalor followed immediately, his massive body coiling and twisting through the battlefield like a living storm. The sea guardian joined the fight with devastating force. Dravoryx now faced two ancient powers at once—and this time, they were prepared. The Devourer roared as Lunaris slashed across his armored scales. Dark flames erupted from Dravoryx in retaliation, pushing the silver wolf back. But Thalor’s enormous coils struck again, forcing the Devourer downward. The three titans crashed into the ground. Shockwaves rolled across the battlefield, throwing soldiers and rebel wolves alike off their feet as dust and debris exploded into the air. Magnus watched from his ridge, jaw clenched. “This… wasn’t supposed to happen yet,” he muttered. One of his lieutenants swallowed hard. “My Alpha… the guardians are turning the battle.” “I see that,” Magnus replied, his voice tight. Across the plains, Lycan soldiers surged forward. With the guardians holding Dravoryx, the corrupted beasts no longer seemed unstoppable. Kael lifted his sword, voice ringing across the battlefield. “Push them back!” The Lycan army responded with renewed fury, forcing rebel forces to retreat step by step. At the heart of the battlefield, Alina stood, her eyes locked on the clash between the guardians and the Devourer. The Moon-Bound energy coursed through her like a storm about to break, every surge of power and danger thrumming inside her. Lunaris’ voice echoed in her mind. Now. Alina understood instantly. The guardians were creating an opening. They were giving her a chance. She stepped forward. Silver symbols glowed beneath her feet, the Moon-Bound power building around her. The air shimmered, almost alive. Dravoryx noticed immediately. He forced Thalor away with a torrent of dark flames, turning his gaze toward her. Golden eyes narrowed. “So this is your plan,” he growled. Alina raised her hands. Silver energy coalesced between them, bright as a rising star. “This war ends today.” Dravoryx laughed, wings unfurling across the sky. “You really believe that? Then show me what the Moon-Bound can do.” Moonlight against darkness. Hope against destruction. As the silver light around Alina intensified, every warrior on the battlefield understood one terrifying truth: the fate of the kingdom would be decided in the moments to come.
