Chapter 67: The Brother's Secret

594 Words
The battlefield fell strangely quiet. For a brief moment, even the monsters seemed to pause as the new figure stepped into the open. Darius. He walked calmly across the broken ground as if the chaos around him meant nothing. Burning debris and scattered weapons lay everywhere, yet his steps were slow and confident. Aria stared at him in disbelief. “You can’t be serious…” Kael’s golden eyes were locked on his brother. “You betrayed us.” Darius stopped a few steps away from them. His expression remained calm, almost amused. “Such harsh words, brother.” Dravoryx lowered his massive head, studying the newcomer carefully. The Devourer’s glowing red eyes narrowed. “You carry powerful magic,” he rumbled. Darius looked up at the enormous creature. “Of course.” He raised one hand slowly. Dark energy swirled around his fingers like black smoke. Aria felt the power immediately. It was strong. Very strong. “You’re using the same magic as that hooded mage,” she said. Darius glanced at her. “Yes.” Kael stepped forward angrily. “You’ve been working with them the entire time.” Darius tilted his head slightly. “Working with them?” He smiled faintly. “That depends on how you look at it.” Dravoryx suddenly laughed. A deep, thunderous sound rolled across the battlefield. “So the little traitor finally reveals himself.” Darius looked back at the Devourer. “I wouldn’t call myself a traitor.” “Oh?” Dravoryx growled. Darius’s eyes gleamed. “I prefer the word… strategist.” Without warning, Dravoryx attacked. His massive claw slammed down toward Darius with crushing force. BOOM! The ground exploded beneath the impact. Dust and debris flew everywhere. Aria gasped. “He’s dead!” But the smoke slowly cleared. Darius was standing several steps away. Completely unharmed. He had moved faster than anyone expected. Dravoryx’s red eyes widened slightly. “Impressive.” Darius raised his hand again. Dark energy gathered rapidly. Then he fired a blast directly at the Devourer. BOOM! The attack struck Dravoryx’s shoulder. The giant creature staggered back a single step. The battlefield froze. Commander Roran whispered in shock. “He… actually hurt it.” Aria stared at Darius. “You were strong enough to fight this entire time…” Darius didn’t look at her. “I was waiting.” Kael’s voice was cold. “Waiting for what?” Darius slowly turned toward him. “For the right moment.” The wind blew across the battlefield. Behind them, the Lycan warriors continued fighting the shadow creatures. But all eyes were now on the three powerful figures standing in the center of the valley. Dravoryx’s massive wings spread wider. His voice dropped into a dangerous growl. “You dare challenge me?” Darius smiled. “Not challenge.” He glanced briefly at Aria’s glowing crescent mark. Then back at the Devourer. “I’m simply testing the future.” Aria frowned. “What does that even mean?” Darius’s expression turned strangely serious. “Because when this war ends…” His eyes burned with quiet ambition. “…only one ruler will remain.” The meaning of his words struck Kael instantly. “You’re planning to take the throne.” Darius didn’t deny it. The Devourer laughed again. “Ambitious little wolf.” The battlefield trembled as Dravoryx stepped forward. “Then let us see if your ambition survives.” The monster’s claws glowed with dark energy as he prepared another devastating attack. And in that moment… The true battle had only just begun.
