Chapter 15:The Assassin's Strike

538 Words
The silver light surrounding Alina grew brighter with every passing second. She hovered slightly above the balcony floor, glowing symbols pulsing beneath her feet like a living heartbeat. Above the palace, the moon burned brighter—as if answering her call. Alina clutched her chest. The power inside her was overwhelming. “It hurts…” she whispered. Below, Kael watched with growing alarm. Even in his massive Lycan form, he could feel it. This power wasn’t just strong— It was ancient. And dangerous. “ALINA!” he roared. But something else caught his attention. Movement. Near the palace doors. Kael’s instincts sharpened instantly. A royal guard moved through the shadows—too quietly, too carefully. Wrong. The scent hit him a second later. Completely wrong. “STOP!” Kael thundered. Too late. The guard broke into a sprint. Up the stairs. Fast. In one swift motion, a dagger flashed into their hand, glinting under the moonlight. On the balcony, Alina didn’t notice. She was trapped inside the storm raging within her. The assassin reached the top. No hesitation. No mercy. “For the rebellion.” The blade shot forward— Straight for her heart. But before it could strike— A blur of black crashed into the balcony. Kael. His massive form slammed into the assassin, sending them flying across the stone. CRACK! The wall shattered on impact. The dagger skidded across the floor. Kael landed between Alina and the attacker, his body radiating pure fury. A growl shook the palace walls. “Who sent you?” he demanded. The assassin coughed, forcing themselves up. Their helmet rolled away. Kael froze for a split second. Recognition. “One of my own guards…” Rage ignited in his eyes. “You betrayed your king.” The guard laughed weakly, blood staining his lips. “You never understood what this kingdom needs.” Below, Magnus watched with interest. “So… even your palace is rotting from within,” he murmured. The guard spat blood. “You call this rebellion?” he said hoarsely. “This is survival.” His eyes flared red. “The Moon-Bound must die… before the prophecy is fulfilled.” Alina’s glowing eyes widened. “What prophecy?” Before anyone could answer— The symbols beneath her feet flared. Blinding. Violent. A wave of silver energy exploded outward. The sky darkened as clouds swallowed the moonlight. Then— A voice echoed inside her mind. Ancient. Powerful. Unavoidable. “The Moon-Bound has awakened.” Images flooded her vision. A war. Ancient and devastating. Wolves and humans fighting side by side. And at the center— A queen. Standing beside a Lycan king beneath a radiant moon. Power. Unity. Destiny. Alina gasped as the vision shattered. Her gaze slowly lifted to Kael. “I’ve seen this before…” Kael’s voice dropped. “What do you mean?” Her breath trembled. “In the vision… you and I…” She hesitated. Then said it— “We were meant to rule together.” Silence fell. Even the battlefield below went still. Magnus’ expression darkened. Because if that was true— Then the Moon-Bound was not just power. Not just prophecy. She was the future. Of the entire Lycan kingdom.
