Chapter 26: The Beast of the Abyss

725 Words
Deep beneath the northern mountains, darkness ruled the ancient chamber Magnus had entered. The air was cold and heavy, filled with the smell of damp stone and something far older… something dangerous. The rebel wolves stood close together, their torches shaking in their hands. The flames flickered wildly, casting long shadows against the massive stone walls. At the center of the cavern stood the enormous ancient cage, carved from black iron and bound with glowing chains that pulsed faintly with old magic. Inside it, something moved. A deep rumble echoed through the chamber, like thunder rolling beneath the earth. Magnus stood calmly before the cage, his arms folded behind his back, his sharp eyes staring into the darkness. One of his soldiers stepped closer to him nervously. “My Alpha… whatever is inside there… it doesn’t feel natural.” Another wolf whispered fearfully, “We should leave. This place was sealed by the ancient kings for a reason.” Magnus didn’t even turn to look at them. Instead, a slow smile spread across his face. “Exactly,” he said quietly. “That is why it will help us win.” Suddenly— Two massive glowing eyes opened in the darkness of the cage. They burned like molten gold. A low, terrifying growl rolled through the cavern, shaking dust from the ceiling. Several rebel wolves stumbled backward in fear. A deep voice echoed from inside the cage. “Who dares disturb my slumber?” The creature slowly moved forward, its enormous shape becoming visible behind the bars. Massive claws scraped against the iron floor. Dark scales covered its body, and twisted horns curved back from its skull. Even chained, it looked powerful enough to destroy the entire mountain. Magnus finally stepped closer. “I am Magnus,” he said calmly. “The Alpha who will rule the Lycan kingdom.” The creature’s glowing eyes narrowed slightly. “Ambitious,” it growled. The chains around its body rattled as it shifted. “And why would I care about the dreams of a mortal wolf?” Magnus’ smile didn’t fade. “Because the one who imprisoned you… their bloodline still rules this land.” The creature froze. For a moment, the cavern fell completely silent. Then the beast spoke again, its voice darker than before. “The Lycan kings…” Its claws dug into the stone floor. “They betrayed me.” Magnus nodded slowly. “They sealed you here centuries ago.” The monster’s glowing eyes burned with hatred. “And now you want my revenge.” Magnus stepped closer to the cage. “Yes.” The torches flickered violently as the creature leaned forward. “What do you offer in return?” Magnus’ voice was cold and certain. “Freedom.” The entire cavern shook as the monster suddenly laughed. A terrible, ancient sound that echoed through the mountain tunnels. “You would break the chains of a creature even the ancient Lycans feared?” Magnus’ eyes gleamed with confidence. “I will break them.” The creature stared at him for a long moment. Then it smiled. A monstrous, terrifying grin. “Very well, little Alpha.” Its deep voice echoed through the chamber. “Break my prison… and I will help you burn the Lycan kingdom to ashes.” Magnus turned toward his soldiers. “Prepare the ritual.” Meanwhile, far away in the Lycan kingdom… Aria suddenly woke in the middle of the night. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as the Moon-Bound power surged inside her. Outside her chamber window, the full moon hung high in the sky. The Shadow Beast stood in the palace courtyard, staring toward the northern mountains. Aria rushed to the window. Her heart pounded with fear. Something terrible was coming. She could feel it. Behind her, the palace door opened suddenly. Kael stepped inside, already dressed in armor. His golden eyes were serious. “You felt it too,” he said quietly. Aria turned toward him slowly. “The thing in the mountain…” Her voice trembled. “It’s waking up.” Kael walked closer to the window, looking toward the distant mountains. His expression hardened. “Then the war has truly begun.” Far beneath the mountain, ancient chains began to crack. And something that had been imprisoned for centuries… Was finally beginning to awaken.
