The Truth

Betty shivered. Even though the man in front of her looked like a real gentleman, she was scared. What would he say when she sees her face? Nevertheless, she took his hand. Her fate has been decided already. They stepped out of the house and Drey led her to the car. “Drive us to the Teewinot Cabin,” he ordered. Teewinot Cabin was one of his house in OrangePark. Betty sat in the foyer of Drey's mansion, with shock. She hadn't expected Drey to take her to such a big and nice house. She was badly injured and disfigured. No one in their right state of mind would want to marry her. She would be a liability. She has always been a liability to her family. This was why they were so eager to get rid of her. So, she expected her suitor to be someone of low class or someone just poor. Why would anyone with such a huge and nice house want to have her as a wife? She looked around, perplexed and sadness filled her heart at the fact that she was the only one around. Her family were so eager to get rid of her that they didn't care where she went. They didn't even bother to find out where Drey was taking her to. They didn't care what became of her later on. Would they send her off to a stranger if they at all cared about her? Well, for over ten years, she had meant nothing to Lavender's family. Even family and friends had treated her badly. But then, her parents were not supposed to abandon her. But they did. They discarded her like trash. Tears slipped out of her eyes uncontrollably. She couldn't even contain it. Drey stepped into the foyer, with a basket containing medicines, ointment and herbs. He dropped it and moved closer to Betty. “Let me see your face.” Betty shivered at the question. The man in front of her really meant business. And it made her heart skip a beat. She didn't want to expect more. She didn't want to put her hope on high. She knew what would happen, she expected it. And she burst into fresh tears. “It's ok, Betty. I have promised to make you the happiest woman in this world. I will not hurt you and I will make sure you trample on anyone that has trampled on you!” He said reassuringly. Betty calmed down. His soft words actually soothed her but she was still reluctant. She wasn't sure the man in front of her would keep to her words after he saw her face. “I just want to see your injuries,” Drey said convincingly. But Betty was hesitant. Drey saw her fear and he hated it. He wanted her to feel secure and safe with him. He was going to protect her anyway. Drey embraced her suddenly, shocking Betty. He patted her lightly. “I have promised you, Betty, that I will not let any harm touch you. I am going to protect you,” he said reassuringly. “But my face is spoiled!” Her voice shook with tremor as she made the statement. And Drey saw it. All she had been through all this while has diminished her self esteem. Drey pulled back to look at her, his expression soft that Betty was convinced. “I can help you. I learnt some medical skills during my military service. And I've collected some herbs and drugs already. I promise to heal all your scars,” he explained and pointed at the basket beside her. She glanced at it and saw different types of herbs and medicine. Was he telling the truth? “Really? Can you really do that?” Drey nodded once, with a smile. “I promise.” Drey watched her for a moment and saw that she had calmed down. He gently pulled down the veil and saw the scars that marred her face like the map of the country. This was all his fault and he was going to make things tight. Drey wiped off her tears with the tips of his fingers. “I will do all I can, and I assure you that you will be shocked by the result.” He didn't waste time and moved closer to the basket. He started to mix herbs, with ointment and medicine. Soon enough, he made a salve and moved closer to Betty with it. “This is so good. If you apply on your rough skin frequently for nine days, it will make it go back to its natural look,” he explained, and started to apply it on her face. Betty looked at the handsome man in front of him and the only thing she could see was a cool, nice man. So, she cooled down. Within minutes, Drey had successfully coated her face with the salve. Then, he used gauze to wrap her face. He stepped back for a moment, “Pull down your clothes so I can apply it on your body too.” Betty complied slowly, and he applied the salve on all the scars on her body. With time, nine days passed and Betty was removing the gauze on her body. She has been applying the salve to her body and face every day under Drey's supervision. Drey made her stand in front of the mirror and slowly took off the gauze. Betty's eyes were still shut. She was scared of seeing herself. For the past ten years, mirrors have been her enemy. She was always scared of seeing herself. “Open up and look at yourself,” Drey egged her on. She opened her eyes slowly and stared. She was shocked for a moment. It felt like a different person was standing in her stead. The scars are gone now, only to be replaced by fresh skin. A part of her face wasn't visible to her because of the salve. So, she used her hand to wipe it away so that she could see her face clearly. She couldn't believe who she was looking at. She was flawless and beautiful. “I told you it would work,” Drey said with a smile. Happiness surged through her, and she jumped into Drey's arms. “Thank you so much, Drey!” Then, she realized immediately that she was naked. Then, she withdrew instantly and looked away. “I've gotten you some nice gowns and underwear. I don't know your size, so I got a lot of different sizes. You should dress up.” Betty nodded once and hurried to the bathroom. Drey walked out and sat in the foyer. He got himself a bottle of champagne and started to sip it slowly. Betty walked out at this moment, clad in a short red dress and her hair packed in a pony. She sat in front of him. “What are you doing?” Drey was going through his phone. He stopped and looked at her, a smile on his face. “Just checking on how rotten the country has gotten recently.” Betty smiled but didn't know what else to say. Even though she had been in the house with him for nine days now, she still felt shy, maybe because she hardly saw him because the gauze was covering all of her face. Drey said it's to eliminate all the blemishes behind her eyes as well. “So, when are we getting married?” Betty was taken aback. It wasn't that she didn't expect it but she didn't expect it at that moment. “Or you don't want me anymore now that your scars are gone?” Drey said softly. Betty shook her head briefly. “That's not it!” She corrected. Betty had been in the house for so long to know the kind of person Drey was. He has been caring for her and made sure she was happy. He also had great respect for her. What else was she looking for? Drey had cared for her even when she had a rough face, and even helped her to overcome it. How much now that she has a fresh face? “I will marry you!” In an hour, Drey and Betty walked out of the church, with a certificate in hand. They were married. Betty smiled at Drey, not at all regretting the decision she had made. Drey was the best. Drey's phone rang suddenly. He took it. “Yes?” “Boss, I've discovered the reason behind the m******e of your family ten years ago.”
