The return of the Commander
In front of “Azure Oasis” restaurant, a man of 6ft stood, with a phone glued to his ear. He was thick, with broad shoulders, evident of training and hardship, of course.
He was casually dressed in black trousers, a t-shirt and a coat.
“Yes, report!” He ordered thickly. His voice was so deep that passersby had to stop and give him a quick scrutiny.
His face was etched in a frown and he exuded a cold personality.
That man was Drey Redford.
Ten years ago, the Redford family was embroiled in a conspiracy that led to the death of everyone in the family in a massive fire, with Drey being the sole survivor.
After secretly fleeing, he joined the military and rose to become the world's top military commander. Now, Drey is back to OrangePark for one thing; to give people what they deserve. Everyone must reap what they have sown.
“I've got everything on Betty Lavender, and I've sent them to your email, Boss.”
Drey hesitated briefly before he started towards a BMW XM that has no number plate. He got inside the car. “Good!” He muttered and hung up.
“Boss,” a man in the driver's seat, clad in a black suit, called suddenly. “I have news about Betty Lavender. It's at the tip of all the people around here.”
What could be happening to Betty Lavender that people can't stop talking about?
Drey dropped his phone and looked up. “Yes, Jeff. What's it about?”
“The Lavender's family wants to choose a husband for Betty. Apparently, it's because she has been disfigured. The family planned to have her married casually, and a husband would be selected today. Every man is eligible to apply for the position as Betty's husband.”
Drey Redford felt pained at what he was hearing. It wasn't Betty's fault that she was disfigured. It was her act of kindness that made her where she was at that moment.
Drey retrieved his laptop and switched it on. He logged into his Email and clicked on the mail sent from his private investigator.
Betty Lavender, 27 years old, is worth nothing to the Lavender's family again. Ten years ago, she ran into the fire to save a boy. That fire destroyed her skin and damaged her face. She has been enduring pain and ridicule over the past decade, and now she's going to be married off.
The boy she rescued ten years ago was Drey Redford.
“Where is it taking place?”
“All interested suitors are to assemble at the Lavender's House.”
If it wasn't for Betty, Drey wouldn't be alive. She rescued him and now, she's suffering from it. He couldn't imagine how much she had suffered, to the extent that her family would want to marry her off to a total stranger.
But that was why he was around. Now that he's successful and renowned, he has decided to return to his hometown to repay the girl who had saved him back then and to also seek revenge on his enemies.
Drey was now a powerful man and not the weak boy from ten years ago. After he struggled and successfully conquered and defeated many enemy nations, he was able to rise to the highest rank in the military. He was the General.
Because of his intelligence and tactics, his fame spread like fire in the harmattan. His name brought fear into the hearts of the enemy. He had once infiltrated an enemy base and killed a general. His fearlessness made people give him the name_Lion.
But that was that. It wasn't what he wanted. His mission was different.
“Drive me to Lavender’s House,” he ordered.
In an hour's time, Drey was standing in the living room of the Lavender's family. There were five suitors, including Drey.
“Let's see, luck will determine who Betty's husband will be!” Joe, the head of the family muttered suddenly and reached inside the bowl on the table. He brought out a crumpled piece of paper and started to stretch it.
Betty was sitting at the far end, with a veil on her face. Her heartbeat increased, as she waited for who her husband would be. Who has fate decided to choose for her?
Joe regarded the paper for a moment. “Drey!”
Betty sobbed quietly. Her fate has finally been decided. She knew that none of the men loved her by the way, no one would when they see her face.
Having decided, all other men were excused.
“Take care of my cousin, Drey! Even though she might not really look like it,” Sean said mockingly.
“I will leave first,” Liam said suddenly, bowed to his father and walked out before anyone else would stop him.
“Well, now, Betty. You should follow your husband. I won't be able to follow you to drop you off,” Ann explained, with an unknown expression. She was Betty's mother, but she didn't look sad or even happy at the event.
Betty knew she couldn't wait to push her off. If she had a chance, she would have done it years back.
“Drey, take your wife. She has been learning how to live as a commoner for ten years now. So, she will do a great job,” Sean mocked.
Ann walked out of the house as well, and Betty couldn't hide her tears.
Drey was looking at her now. Even though he couldn't see her face, he could see how soaked the veil was. Betty was crying.
Its pained him to see her like that, and he mentally promised that he would make sure she never cried again.
Drey ignored Sean and moved closer to her. He bent in front of her and looked at her with a soft expression. “Follow me and I promise to make you the happiest woman in the world. We will trample on people that have trampled on you. You will be the queen. Just take my hand,” he muttered, and stretched out his hand to her.
A smile was on his face.
