Chapter 9
They left in the morning en route for Kansas City. A barrier had fallen away between them. They both sensed it. They didn’t revisit those revelations they’d made at the spa. Their talk was general and friendly, and they joked and talked about nonsense. But something had changed.
They took a couple of days to get to and then past Kansas City. But once beyond it, some tension reappeared. Their next stop would be at the home of Zoe’s parents. It might be the last stop on this trip for Zoe.
“This is it,” Zoe said, and Lorna pulled up outside a house in the suburbs of Jefferson City.
“You want me to come in with you?” Lorna asked.
