WHERE AN ERA STARTS
She is sick. Very sick. There is an undetermined bacteria mutating in her body, slowly attacking the nervous system. This bacteria will dominates the human brain and that person becomes uncontrollable and dangerous, can cause complications, however, it can also help the person uses the other 90-percent capacity of human brain. Yet, the worst-case scenario, it might kill the person if thing cannot be perfected.     There is the only moment in life where everything can be so perfect. Beautiful... and fine. They never have to think about chaos, what feud of yesterday or what war tomorrow will bring. For almost nine year-old, driving in old country lanes, and the stop is most likely a remote place for the Kingsley’s— Senile Hireath always remembers. The long bumpy roads subconsciously save in her mind as jumping a trampoline up and down with the prettiest streak of light. But it is always the light that astonishes her because she never seen how beautiful the sun rises and sets when they still lived in a building apartment where other huge buildings are covering it.     She always likes it because it reminds her to the daybreak princess who has the key to an infinite power by making her own choices. Her mother always tells a story about the beautiful daybreak princess during bedtime. It was a very long story that Senile falls asleep before she knows the ending.     The place is a wide forest as they arrive. Senile thought it is the new house they has passed by, but it is the next house few meters away from it. Because it is the only house-like in this remote area. It is a good structure house—two storey house. It has astonishing tainted windows. The most fascinating in there is the garden of golden daffodils. Daffodils aren’t like any roses, but it feels like more than roses for young Senile. Next to it is more likely a wrecking cabin. And yet, the cabin that has been mention is that is exactly the place where the Kingsley will be living.     Their new place is an enormous wreck which it isn’t what everyone’s expecting. Her dad made the designs and everyone has give their part of what they want to seen in the house. Senile wants a playground with a video gaming station where she and her brothers can play together. And a party stage she ever wanted for their coming birthdays—she and her twin brother, Daniel. The house is a mixture of modern and avant garde style. It has bricks on the area where the chimney is placed but the rest of the house structure is a wreck! And it is supposed to be the good part of the house. It is surrounded with glade of berries, and tall trees. She almost hates it there but when her dad told her what she will see inside, she can’t say anything.     Yes. She cannot judge the house by its outside figure. It is automated, with high-functioning systems. The wooden gate opens by finger print recognition. It isn’t a wooden gate but a metal. Every tree near the house has a ball with a blinking red light. A wireless camera with laser alarm. Is it even a real tree? Inside the house is a complete set of what they ask from her dad. It is perfect.     “Why the isn’t beautiful from the outside, daddy?” Senile asks once her dad.     “Because a real treasure should be hidden, honey.” Dad leaves a symbolic response. Her dad parks the car and her brothers jump in to check what is inside. They are racing to find their own spots in the house.          “What is that mean, daddy?” She asks once more.     With mom’s response, she understands but that leads to more follow-up questions. “Sweetie, you meant that we should stay a low-key life. That’s the only way we are safe from the people who will hurt us.”     “Why do they hurt us? Have we done something bad? Oh! This is the best playground in the house!” Senile cries of amusement and runs over the playground. She even forgets about what just she asks her mom.     Playing around becomes their normal routine. She meets the Carter’s children from the next house and becomes Senile best friends over a few months pass.     The sun rises at 4:30 a.m. but she wakes up thirty minutes early and still fantasizing a best party to be held today for her and Daniel which she’s been so excited about ever since they moved. They’re both turning nine.     “Dani! Dani!” She cries out of excitement, going to his twin brother who is sleeping from the other room. She jumps in his bed as soon as she arrives to wake him up. “Wake up! We’re already nine. Dani!”     Daniel is sharing room with their two older brothers, and for Senile, she has her own room next door. Daniel yawns audibly as he stretches his body as he wakes up. He slowly scratches his eyes and blink it twice, having a glimpse of the two empty beds at the left side.     “Come on, mommy is baking the cake downstairs! Let’s watch it!” She squeaks and flushes a bit. They are most likely best friends and become squad best friends when they meet the other kids in the neighborhood. “It’s our birthday! It’s our birthday! And, oh! Dave and Uji already prepared the balloons.”     “I’m still sleepy...” He effortlessly says, so Senile frowns in no time.     “We. Have. To. See. It. Now!” She utters word per word with conviction, and she drags Daniel out of his bed. But they spring out of bed with a jolt and ends laughing.     She’s so looking forward to see how this be most lit party ever. She just wants to capture, remembering every single thing of it as she grows. And she wants Daniel to be excited too as she is. Because it’s their birthdays.     Daniel grins as soon after they fall down the floor. He looks at Senile as if he will going to throw a jiffy competition. Sure, he is. “Who can arrive downstairs first will have the largest slice of cake!” He cries declaring a race with Senile.     They both run downstairs to catch up mom. If Daniel is being competitive, she’ll never let Senile wins. Daniel cares so much Senile’s. He loves her sister—his first and only very best friend.     “Yes! I win.” Senile sings a victory in his face.     “I don’t like too much cake, anyway.” Daniel just makes the best excuse.          “Oh, happy birthday to my two sweet babies...” Greets mom after she puts the cake mixture to oven. Then, each of them receives a forehead kiss from her. “I love you both.”     “Mommy, can you play my favorite beat, please?” Mom smiles genuinely hearing from sweet Daniel. She puts the stereo down and Daniel plays the Michael Jackson’s song then start to dance. He loves Michael Jackson. He’s been practicing his moves every other day.     Senile always admires her brothers with their talents. She starts wondering if she has one. “Mommy, what is my talent?”     Mom pauses in a jiffy, making sure what she will say. “What do you think the daybreak princess?” And she just says exactly what Senile wants to hear.     “She is brilliant!” The excitement appears again from Senile. She knows that a beautiful daybreak princess doesn’t have any talent. She is a hero of her kingdom. “I want to be like her!”     “Sure, you are, sweetie.” Says mom with a smile.     Time passes. It is already six, and Senile is not expecting a cousin to arrive because she never hear about their family relatives from both parents’ sides. She is too focus to the event and to her only friends and family she has. She already invited the Carter’s next door by giving them a handwritten invitation she made last week. It was the sweetest. She doesn’t recognize the little admiration she feels towards the eldest child of the Carter, Vernon. He seems likely had the face of an American icon with a British accent. He always likes to wear his golden sweater. She thinks it is his favorite color. He likes filming himself and making gags out of it but his dad doesn’t let him post it online. Vernon is a year older than Senile.     “I’ll be having the cupcakes, mommy!” Said Senile who’s planning to take run to the Carter’s.     “Please don’t go outside, sweetie. I’ll call the Carter’s to come over.” Said mom who has already read the daughter’s mind. “It’s dangerous to go anywhere on your birthday.”     “But, mommy… we only had the Carter’s and our house in this place. I’ll be fine.” Senile replied. “It’s my birthday!”     “It’s your birthday, that’s why, honey.” Dad surprises her with a lift and hug. “You should be stay home. Happy birthday, dear Senile.”     “Thank you, daddy.” She said as her dad puts her down. She is a sweet girl but something a great rule-breaker.     She doesn’t understand what her mom has been so worrying about. She doesn’t even wonder why their house has its multiple lock, cameras and even laser alarms. She doesn’t know any of it.     Senile still sneaks out. She and Vernon both love to stay at the Carter’s garden of golden daffodils. It is their favorite spot— watching the sun rises and sets. She goes there bringing cupcakes for Vernon and his younger sister, Sofia. Mostly, she wants to see Vernon already on the garden sitting and wait for the sun to show up. She pace a bit fast.     The Kingsley has a wide house that Senile must run few steps to get at the house next door. With her small feet, it will take almost ten minutes to be there. Vernon is waving to her from distance.     She heads straight where Vernon stands. All the sudden three men show up from nowhere in no time. They’re blocking the little girl, with a hint of an evil plan against her. Where are they coming from?          “Hello, Foster’s.” Greets the man with a devious smile, and mistakenly calls Senile with other name.     “Who are you? Mommy said, I shouldn’t talk to strangers.” Senile feels an instant shiver. She must be crying inside now, but she is still innocence. “But also, mommy said to be kind to strangers. I can share these cupcakes...”     “You are a sweet little girl… sadly, but it doesn’t long.”     “We’ll take you kid, as the boss said.” Replies the man and takes her by surprise. She is too small to win against their strong grip and guns.     “Get off me!” Senile cries. “What do you want from me?! Get off me!”     She yells and yells but they don’t listen. She even begs. “Please!”     The men act like they never hear it. Senile screams, asks for help. She calls Vernon, who seems shocked of what’s going on, though his father has been trained him for this situation. They have karate class every Tuesday and Friday. But for an eight years old, it’s still a shocking scenario which he can never prepare for. The karate class gives him a little bravery.     “Hey, men in black!” Vernon calls them black because they’re literally wearing black suits, and throws pebbles towards them. Then, he runs over, trying to help Senile and playing brave but he can’t do anything at all. He’s a kid, too. “Let go of her! It’s her birthday. Get me, instead.”     The men are laughing with the boy’s deal. “We know, little guy.” The man replies and continues laughing.     “Uh-uh, it’s not your turn yet, Carter.” Said the other man, who heads to their van. “Where’s the fun now?”     “Get lost, you evil guys!!!” Vernon yells. Men are cussing him as he throws them raining pebbles he has collected before the black men notice it.     “You are a bad guy!” Senile angrily utters, snatches a hard bite while kicking around. She escapes him and run but she gets caught with the other guy, and Vernon too.     Someone comes with a fake grenades to make a distraction. They barely seen who is coming because the place is covered with heavy smoke.     “Let go off my daughter, you son of a psychopath!” It was her mom. Senile lights up when she hears her mom nearer. She cries as she hears jolt. Her mom hits the man with a batter, landing a man on the ground.           “This isn’t about the kids! Leave them behind Ross.”     This undeniable that her mom madness has showing from her tone as she talks to a man. She knows something. Who is Ross? Senile freezes as she wonders.     “Run, Senile. RUN!” She follows mom’s and runs away. She can’t see the way home but she still memorizes it. She almost out of breathing and fear is almost consuming her. Where’s Vernon? She asks herself.     In that moment, she doesn’t know what to do. She is panicking because she knows she’s in trouble. Her mom is fighting alone from those men. She can hear yelling, kicking, and hard metals clashing.            “Where are you going little kid?!” Cries the man, but Senile has already hide behind the trees. What is happening? A long silence crosses over, and there, she overhears her heart beat. She hates silence because she doesn’t know what is going on now. If those men has been defeated or otherwise. She doesn’t likes this kind of silence because she can’t guess what will happen next…     Bang! A loud bang leaves her shiver and freezes. She never seen a gun before but she knows what a gun sounds like. She knows when she hears it. And right now, she does. The only thing she can think of is her daddy to show up and help. She screams and cries. It is heard fall over the place. The birds fly from the tree, and the other wild animals have responded from it.     “MOMMY!!! VERNON!” She almost lose her voice. It is was a good call to get back up. Her dad and the Carters come over, but they know it is too late.     “Let’s go! We have the kid. Leave her!”     The van’s engine starts. She is soaked with sweat all over her body after she hears the second bang. Her hands are shuddering.       “Mommy...” She cries. The fog is slowly fading. It is clear red spills on the ground. Everything stops when she sees her mom drowns with her own blood. And everything went black!
