Clay POV "There here," Emma said as she cautiously cracked open the creaking motel door. She paused for a moment, her senses on high alert, trying to detect any lurking danger. Nodding in assurance, we ventured out of the room. As we approached the car, the sound of a distant car alarm pierced the silence, creating an eerie backdrop to our clandestine meeting. The car window slid down with a soft hum, revealing the familiar face of the woman I had met at the hotel as we got in. "Hey kiddo," Flint greeted Emma from the driver's seat, his gravelly voice resonating through the vehicle. "Hey Flint, I'm sorry you two got dragged into coming out here," Emma apologized, her words laced with a tinge of guilt. "No problem at all," he said to her. "The hunters have been a nuisance as it is at home." "I think you all already met, but Clay, this is Flint," Emma continued, her voice carrying a hint of excitement. "He is like an uncle to me." "And then his mate Bryn," Emma continued, her voice filled with warmth. "She is an immortal witch." "I am not sure how much you know of my family," Emma explained, her voice tinged with nostalgia. "But Bryn and Flint have stood beside my mother and father since they basically first found each other." "They helped save not just the werewolf realm, but the human realm," Emma continued, her words resonating with pride. "And now they will stand behind us as well as the rest of my family." "I know some about your family, but it will be fun to learn more," I replied. Bryn turned her gaze towards us, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "It would seem Clay is officially part of the family now," Bryn said, her words carrying a sense of acceptance. "Wait, really? Congratulations," Flint chimed in, his voice filled with genuine surprise. "Emma marked you," Bryn explained. I moved my hand against the mark on my skin, the texture slightly raised and tingling. "I'm assuming that means you told him about how he can become like you," Bryn asked Emma. "Yes, I did," Emma confirmed. "Flint was a werewolf," Bryn explained to me. "Was?" I asked, a touch of confusion creeping into my tone. "My wolf transformed into a lycan based on a special spell," Flint clarified. "It is one that asked the moon goddess to bestow the gift.” "I needed to become stronger to aid Emma's parents, King Atlas and Queen Mia," he explained as we drove. "Bryn will be the one when the time is right to do the spell with you, Clay, although we will have to wait until we enter my home realm," Emma explained to me. "Yes, waiting is what's best, as it will kind of knock you out for a few days," Flint added. "So, Hunter turned to Lycan, happy to see not all of you are a lost cause," Flint added, his words laced with a touch of amusement. "He was manipulated and lied to, as I'm sure many others have been. That is why we must focus our efforts on what they call the Hunter Council and the leaders. I am sure there are others like Clay who believe they are fighting for humanity. So many believe we are beasts or dangerous, and it's time to put an end to that," I said. "You're no beast, but you are dangerous," I said, my voice teasing as I smirked at her. "Okay, you two lovebirds, let's get you to safety," Flint then said, breaking the moment. Bryn handed a vial to Emma. "I think I'm fine without it," she said, wrinkling her nose at the smell. Her expression was adorable, and it made me chuckle softly. The sight of her crinkled nose added a touch of innocence to her already captivating presence. "It's best to be safe, as Noah told us Clay has wolf in him. Although you marked him to solidify your bond, he needs to mark you. But I doubt that can happen until he is changed, and you need that strong bond for your control," Bryn explained to her. "It tastes so yucky," Emma grimaced as she brought the vial to her lips. The sight of her taking the potion, her delicate hand holding the glass, stirred a mix of emotions within me. I wanted to protect her, to ensure her well-being. "Is that because of your Lycan and that electric power or storm power, or whatever you call it?" I asked, trying to understand her abilities. "Yes, it is," she responded, her voice carrying a hint of vulnerability. "Her powers react to her emotions, as I'm sure you've already learned. So, this just helps her stay calm when things get rough," Bryn explained to me. "Your mother and father both asked that I give you a full check-up when I can," Bryn then said to Emma. "Of course, they did. I'm surprised they did not ask Jennifer to do them when I first came," Emma responded. "It's only because they worry and want to help you," Bryn said. "I know," Emma said, her voice filled with a quiet acceptance. As she held up her hand, a small spark flickered for a moment. I reached out and took her hand. Bryn watched, her eyes filled with a knowing gaze. "It doesn't hurt you, does it?" she smiled. "No," I responded. "Just like Emma's parents, when I first witnessed her father calm her mother's storm, it was an amazing sight. It was the power of two souls meant to be together. It's amazing how one's soulmate truly has the power to calm and heal them," Bryn said, her voice carrying a sense of wonder and awe. “Noah is at Jennifer's place now, waiting for us. Ryan will try to get there today if he feels it's safe," Bryn explained. "Emma, it's best for you and Clay not to return to campus. I'm sure you already know that," Flint said. "Yeah, I know. I don't think Clay even liked the classes," Emma said softly, sounding a little upset. "I enjoyed some of what we learned, but it felt forced for me. I was assigned to attend those classes because I had to keep an eye on Ryan," I admitted. "Well, at least you enjoyed the parties," she said. "I never really enjoyed them. I hate fake people who pretend to be someone they're not just to fit in. That's what you find at those parties. I usually tried to drink enough to not care," I said. Emma stayed silent, her mind on other things. I knew she regretted my past mistakes, especially being with others. But I've never loved anyone like I love Emma. Even now, sitting next to her, I miss holding her in my arms. "You won't find many fake people in our realm. Maybe it's because we don't need to impress others since we have our mates," Flint said from the front. "Says the lycan who did everything to get me to notice him," Bryn laughed. Earlier, he called Emma "kiddo," even though he looked the same age as her. Just as Emma said her kind ages slowly, and immortal witches live for eternity, from what I've learned. When we arrived at the house, Emma seemed a little happier. Before I could say anything, she ran to her brother, who was standing in the doorway, and he held her in his arms. "Those two have always been inseparable, like two peas in a pod since birth," Bryn said, as I stepped out of the car with them. Jennifer emerged. She greeted me with a friendly nod. "Thanks for letting me stay here," I said gratefully to Jennifer. She smiled warmly and replied, "No problem at all." She then turned to Noah, "Noah even managed to discreetly retrieve most of your belongings and Emma's too." Emma's eyes widened in surprise as she turned towards Noah. "Wait, you got my stuff?" she exclaimed. Noah nodded, his voice filled with a mix of affection and amusement. "Yeah, well, that damn stuffed animal I got you was still in that apartment, and I know you're attached to it." Emma's cheeks flushed slightly, her embarrassment evident. "Emma, how about you come with me for a moment?" she suggested. Emma let out a sigh and agreed, "Okay." She then turned to Noah, her voice filled with concern. "Go easy on Clay," she advised her brother. Her gaze then shifted to Flint, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "You as well," she said to him, causing him to chuckle. As Emma made her way into the house with Bryn, the sound of the door creaking open resonated through the air. "She's in safe hands with Bryn Hunter, no need to worry," Noah said to me reassuringly. Noah's gaze shifted momentarily to Flint, their eyes locked in silent communication. As he turned back to me, a mischievous glint danced in his eyes. "So, let's see what you're made of," he challenged, his voice filled with anticipation. The adrenaline started pumping through my veins, heightening my senses. We made our way to a small yard space, the rough texture of the gravel crunching beneath our feet. I peeled off my shirt, feeling the cool air brush against my bare skin, adding to the growing sense of anticipation. "Don't worry, we'll take it easy on you." I knew he meant it, but I also knew that this would be a test of my strength and resilience. With a deep breath, I prepared myself for the challenge that lay ahead, ready to embrace the physicality of the fight. "No shifting human form only," Noah said, his voice filled with determination. I nodded in agreement, my heart pounding with anticipation. “None of your fancy weapons,” Flint added. "Understood," I said. I looked towards the house, my gaze momentarily distracted. In that moment, Noah's brother lunged at me, his footsteps crashing against the ground. I reacted quickly, evading him with a swift movement, surprising him. "You're fast," he admitted, his voice filled with a mix of surprise and admiration. But he wasn't deterred. He came at me again, his attack powerful enough to knock me off balance. The impact sent a jolt through my body, the sensation reverberating in my bones. I chuckled, the taste of determination lingering on my tongue as I rose to my feet. I charged at him, my muscles tensing with each step. "Fearless, I see," he remarked, a smirk playing on his lips. I met his gaze. "I'm just getting started," I replied, my voice steady. The scent of sweat hung in the air, mixing with the earthy aroma of the surroundings. "Are you afraid a human may beat you?" I taunted, my words hanging in the air. He shook his head, his eyes blazing with intensity. "Hell no," he declared. He came charging towards me, and slammed me backwards into the tree. My body collided with the rough bark, sending shivers of pain reverberating through my bones. The impact was so forceful that a sharp cough escaped my lips, my lungs struggling to regain their composure. "Careful Noah, he doesn't heal like us," Flint cautioned, his voice filled with concern. I shook off the pain. "No," I replied firmly. "I'm fine, keep going." I knew that this was merely a test, a challenge from Emma's brother to prove my worth. I had faced worse in my training, and I needed to show him that I could handle myself. Noah smirked, acknowledging my refusal to back down. He lunged at me once again, his movements swift and precise. The sound of his footsteps echoed in my ears, the rustle of leaves beneath his feet adding to the intensity of the moment. I focused on evading his attacks, relying on my instincts to guide me. Without weapons, evasion was my best strategy against his inhuman strength. With a growl, Noah's fist collided with the tree, his frustration evident. He quickly regained his composure, but that brief moment of distraction was all I needed. I landed a punch, causing him to stumble backwards. He chuckled, a mix of surprise and admiration in his voice. "Not bad at all," he remarked, his tone laced with laughter. He charged at me once more, his movements fluid and relentless. This time, he managed to bring me down to the ground. The impact sent waves of pain pulsating through my body, every nerve ending screaming in protest. But I refused to stay down. With a fierce determination, I rose to my feet, ready for more. Yet, to my surprise, he halted his assault, his eyes filled with a newfound respect. "Emma will have my head if I continue," Noah said. "But for a human, you did well," Noah continued."You can easily handle werewolves, I'm sure. Maybe not when they shift, without weapons," he explained. "Thanks," I said, a sense of accomplishment filling me. We went into the house. Jennifer sat in the room we entered, but stood up as we approached. "Ryan called," she said, her voice carrying a note of urgency. "He will be by later today to discuss what they have learned in regards to the hunter situation." "Emma is still up with Bryn, but they should be down soon," she added. "I'll go up," Noah offered, his voice filled with concern. But Flint, standing firm, stopped him in his tracks. "She will be fine," Flint reassured Noah. "She already had an episode here. I know it's been some time, but she's been taking the potion. It's not fair. We're twins, so I should be able to share the burden," he growled. Flint looked at me and said, "She has her mate now. You just fought him. Clay is strong, so she'll be fine. "Go out and run. You need it. You know where the barrier ends here," Flint said to Noah. "Is she really that..." I started to speak. "Emma will be fine," Flint reassured me, his voice filled with concern. "I know my word probably still does not mean much," I said to him, "but I really do care about her and will do whatever I can to help." "I'm well aware of that," he reassured me, his voice soothing yet tinged with caution. "You're on the right path, though it may still be a bumpy one. But I'm sure you two will end up just fine." Bryn entered the room, but Emma was nowhere in sight. Concern crept into my voice as I asked, "Is Emma okay?" Bryn's face lit up with a smile as she gazed out the window. The room was filled with the sound of her laughter. "That girl is bursting with life right now," she replied. I looked towards the stairs and Bryn chuckled. "Look outside," she urged, diverting my attention to the world beyond. Through the window, I witnessed Emma playfully tackling her brother. "How did she end up there?" I asked. "She jumped out of the window when she noticed Noah was upset." Bryn laughed. I continued to watch them through the window, observing their antics. Flint, sensing my hesitation, reassured me, "She won't mind if you join her." I nodded, torn between interrupting their joyous moment or quietly observing. Emma's presence, her bond with her brother, brought a sense of happiness to my heart. It made me wonder what it would have been like to have a close relationship with my own little sister, a feeling of longing washing over me. Memories of her flooded my mind, and I couldn't help but miss her. During my time with the hunters, seeking revenge consumed me, but it always felt like an endless pursuit. Now, though, I could feel in every fiber of my being that I was on the right path, inching closer to the justice my family deserved. It gave me a sense of peace, as if they were finally at rest.
