Emma POV
"I believe it would be best if we found a way to return home," Noah's voice filled my mind through our link. I was sitting on the motel bed, with Clay sound asleep next to me. "The hunters are getting onto our territory as well, but you have more protection, especially since we know they are after you and have your identity," Noah said.
"I agree, but I'm not sure if we can. We might need to take down the hunters' headquarters first. They have all the entrances into our realm under surveillance. Although we may survive, they could harm Clay," I responded to my brother through our link. As I brushed my hand through Clay's hair, I realized he was a deep sleeper.
"Clay is not safe here either, Emma. And we don't have the resources to turn him into one of us. Bryn is here and knows the spell, but we need to be back at the Kingdom," Noah said to me.
"I marked him, Noah," I informed my brother through our link.
"Wait, it didn't hurt him," Noah replied.
"No, he is strong, Noah. Although I fear the danger he may face now that he's with me, I think he can handle more than we give him credit for," I said to my brother through our link. "He's perfect," I added, unable to stop myself.
"I'm happy for you, Emma. I know you were worried he might not accept you at first," my brother said as I moved my fingers against the mark on Clay's flesh.
"I never thought a human could be so perfect or last so long," I mused through our link, causing Noah to chuckle.
"I love you, Emma, and I'm open to discussing almost anything with you. But maybe not how well your mate performs in bed. I really don't want that image in my mind," he teased.
"Sorry, Noah," I said, feeling embarrassed.
"Flint is not far from your current location, along with Bryn. I am also nearby. Bryn is pretty confident that there are no hunters around. It seems Ryan successfully led them away from you. We'll wait another hour to be sure, and then we'll come and get you two and head to Jennifer's house," my brother explained.
"What about Ryan and Kris? Do you have any updates?" I asked Noah.
"Ryan successfully reached his pack lands and managed to lose the hunters. Jennifer joined him and assisted in strengthening a protective barrier to ensure their safety. Kris is currently on Ryan's pack lands, and the latest update reveals that he is struggling with his transformation. Once it is safe, he will be transferred to Jennifer's house, where we will support him in adjusting to the best of our abilities, Emma. However, you must also prepare for the worst. I understand that you wanted to save your friend, but as you know, not everyone survives, and those who do may undergo a complete transformation into soulless creatures," my brother warned.
"I am aware, but I will do everything in my power. I promised Melody that I would find him," I replied to my brother.
"He can never return to his life here, Emma. His best chance would be to come back to the kingdom with us and live among the community of vampires who stand alongside the wolves and Lycans," my brother conveyed through our link. I struggled to hold back my emotions, knowing full well that Kris was in love with Melody, and she had reciprocated those feelings. Yet, now this had happened. In my realm, there were humans and hybrid relationships. Perhaps, when the time is right, we can reveal the truth about our world to Melody.
"Emma," Noah's voice echoed through our link once again. I sensed that he had something he didn't want to share.
"What's wrong, Noah? Spit it out," I urged my brother.
"Liz," he said.
"What about her? Did Ryan's warriors destroy her body?" I inquired anxiously.
"No, Emma. I spoke with Ryan, and they claim her body vanished. However, there were traces of her scent in the air, indicating signs of life," my brother revealed through our link. This made me growl, and Clay, who was awakened by my reaction, looked at me with surprise.
"Are you okay?" Clay asked, sitting up in bed and pulling me close, his hands caressing my body as he kissed my neck.
"If she disappeared, perhaps witchcraft is at play. Clay confirmed that she had no pulse, so it's possible she is a hybrid and her body healed, bringing her back to life. If she is part vampire, she may not have had a pulse to begin with. She smelled human to me, but the hunters are cunning, and with the help of witchcraft, they could have easily altered her scent," I explained to my brother through our link.
"Emma," Clay said, sounding concerned.
"Sorry, I was communicating with my brother," I apologized.
"Oh," he responded. "I guess I still need to get used to your telepathic conversations," he chuckled, addressing me.
"Hey Noah, Clay is awake. Let me know when Flint and Bryn can come get us, or if you find out anything new. I'll fill Clay in and we can prepare to leave," I said to my brother through our link. Then, I turned my attention to Clay. "Sorry about that," I apologized.
"It's fine. I'm still learning a lot about you, and it must be cool to communicate like that," Clay replied.
"Yeah, it has its benefits, but sometimes I share more than I intend to. Unlike a phone call, we tend to share all thoughts when the link is open," I explained with a smile.
"Since I marked you, we should be able to communicate, although it may take some time for you to fully feel the link. Does my mark hurt? You don't feel any pain, right?" I asked him.
"No, it doesn't hurt. In fact, it felt amazing when you marked me," Clay admitted.
"Clay, are you certain that Liz had no pulse after you stabbed her?" I asked.
"Yes, I'm certain," he replied, sensing my concern.
I sighed. "She disappeared before Ryan's warriors could burn her body. And not only that, we can pick up on people's scents, and they change when someone is dead or alive. They claim to have picked up on a faint hint of her scent, as if she were still alive. This means there's a good chance she managed to escape with her life. But it also raises the question of how, and if she's possibly not fully human, maybe a hybrid. Did you notice anything strange when you were with her? Anything that would make you think she might be a hybrid?" I asked Clay.
"I haven't known her for very long. I only met her the night before I met you. We hooked up at a party when I was drunk," Clay confessed, a tinge of shame in his voice. "During the time I worked with her, she didn't follow orders, showed no remorse, and lacked empathy. She seemed to enjoy hurting others. When we found our way into the werewolf realm, she didn't hesitate to threaten a she-wolf and her child. And based on what I later learned, I'm pretty sure she was the one who killed them too. She's a psychopath, but humans can be that way. I haven't seen her fight much, so I'm not sure if she's stronger or anything," Clay responded to my inquiry.
"Okay, for now, we have to assume that she's alive. Not only that, but she also witnessed firsthand that you're no longer on the hunters' side. So, it's safe to assume that they'll send hunters after you, Clay. I need you to trust me and my family. We can keep you safe. But I really need you to follow our instructions. I've been training my whole life to handle situations like this, and so have the others with me, including Ryan and his pack members. Our upbringing and way of life are different from humans, as you know. So, I really need you to trust me, okay?" she said to me.
"I understand, but I also need your trust. Let me help Emma. Even though I can't stick to the original plan, I can still assist you, your family, and Ryan's pack. I've also trained for a significant portion of my life, and even though I wasn't aware of the hunters' true intentions, I still know their ways and how they fight, including their weapons," he said, and I nodded.
"It's true that the knowledge you possess will be beneficial to us. We can both learn from each other," I said to him.
"We should be able to leave here within the next hour or so, so we should start preparing. While the safest option would be for us to go back to where I live, I don't think that's possible. Instead, we will be going back to Jennifer's place, where we can formulate a plan. Ultimately, my goal is to take down the hunters here. They pose a threat not only to the packs in the human realm, but also to my kingdom in the werewolf realm. As the Lycan princess, it is my duty to help protect others. My brother, parents, and I are among the strongest, so many rely on us to assist the weaker ones. If we don't put an end to them, they will continue developing new weapons that cause even more damage. I want to uncover their true intentions. For years, they have not only killed my kind, but also conducted experiments on us. We don't believe their goal is to create hybrids; it's something more. There is a reason they want us and the power some of us possess, like me," I explained to Clay. "I also believe that by taking down the hunters and uncovering their true motives, we may find answers as to why your family was killed, Clay. We know you have wolf blood in you, which ultimately means there is a hybrid in your bloodline. Essentially, one could say that you are one as well," I added, as I got out of bed to grab my clothes and head into the bathroom to freshen up.
"If we continue to work together, we might be able to take down the hunters. This could help convince those who view you as a criminal that you're actually a force for good. Although I know your true identity, there are many who don't, especially the family of the she-wolf and her pup that were killed. They were part of a powerful pack, one that isn't exactly on friendly terms with my kingdom but holds significant influence over other packs. If I were to publicly announce you as my mate, it could potentially cause trouble for my family and our supporters. So, for now, Jennifer or Bryn will need to help conceal my mark on you, and we must keep our true relationship hidden when we're outside Jennifer's house or in public.”
“If we ever have to visit Ryan's pack lands, we need to be cautious. While he has agreed to grant more freedoms, he is also mindful of the possibility that his pack might spread word about how we're treating the hunter who led an attack on our academy. Clay, I really don't want to treat you as a prisoner or a slave. It's just..." I started saying, but Clay interrupted me, saying
"It's okay, Emma." He stood up with me, ready to get dressed.
As I gazed at him, his chiseled physique commanded my attention. Every contour and muscle was a work of art, captivating my eyes. The sharpness of his v-line was a sight to behold, drawing me in like a magnet.
I shook my head, my mind refocusing. The room was dimly lit, the soft glow of a nearby lamp casting shadows on the walls as the curtains remained shut. His hands made contact with my body, I could feel the warmth of his touch against my skin.
His words reached my ears, whispered against my neck. The sound of his voice was low and velvety, sending a wave of anticipation through me.
"You're nervous," he whispered. "You're afraid," he continued, his hand gently caressing my body. "But despite that, you stand tall and brave. Emma, you're so incredibly beautiful that I can't take my eyes off you. And it's not just your appearance, it's your inner beauty too. You don't even need a mark on my body to make me obey your every command. I'm in love with you, Emma. Words I never thought I would say, but now I want to say them to you all the time. I love you, so please don't feel bad about having to give me orders. Behind closed doors, we belong to each other equally. I can kiss you as much as I want, touch you as much as I desire, and I know you enjoy it just as much as I do," he confessed.
My heart raced, the adrenaline coursing through my veins. His gaze, intense and unwavering, locked onto mine. It was as if he could see straight into my soul, reading me like an open book.
He leaned in closer, his lips grazing my skin, causing a gasp to escape my lips. The sensation sent a jolt of pleasure through my body. His hand moved slowly, tracing a path down my body, igniting a fire within me. I couldn't help but let out a soft moan, the sound echoing in the room.
"Clay, we need to get ready to go," I whispered, feeling his arms wrapped tightly around me. I could hear the faint sound of his heartbeat, a steady rhythm against my ear.
"I love you too, Clay," I murmured, my voice filled with sincerity. I could feel his hand, slightly trembling. His lips brushed against my skin one last time before he reluctantly let me go.
Suddenly, Noah's voice echoed in my mind. "Flint will arrive in a black Chevy SUV in 30 minutes. Be ready," he informed me.
"We will," I replied.
"We have thirty minutes," I stated to Clay, my voice filled with determination as I made my way into the bathroom. The cool tiles beneath my feet provided a welcome contrast to the growing heat of the moment. I was ready to fight, to defend myself, my future with Clay, and my kind.
