'Hey babe, is there a problem? Everyone's been waiting for you.'
Evelyn read through the message one more time, before clicking on send.
She continued to look at her phone, patiently waiting to get Chase's text.
Three more minutes and yet there was still nothing.
"What is really going on here?" Evelyn's mother asked, immediately she stepped into the room.
"We have been trying to reach out to him through her cell phone but we still haven't gotten a hold of him," Annie replied in Evelyn's stead.
A message notification popped in on Evelyn's phone. She looked to see who it was from.
"Chase just texted," she announced to both women, smiling sheepishly.
They immediately gathered around her, to read through the content of the message.
'I am sorry to disappoint you but this wedding can't go through any longer. For days now, I have been trying to get the message through to you but naivety couldn't let you see. I met someone else I love and I intend to wed her today. Forget about having me in your life, find someone else who will be able to love you, bye.'
She dropped her phone out of shock, tears began to stream down her cheek.
"How dare that son of a b***h?" Annie blurted out, looking really angry.
As for Evelyn's mom, she moved closer to her and began to console her.
"No, I can't believe that Chase sent this message. Something must be wrong somewhere. What if someone stole his phone or something?" Evelyn tried to justify.
"Are you being serious right now?" Annie asked her, giving her a pitiful look.
"Of course," she replied.
"Enough of the talking, let's try calling the line to be sure that he is really the person with his phone," her mom suggested.
Evelyn picked her phone and dialed his number, it wasn't going through.
She tried again and again but still it wasn't connecting.
"His line is unreachable," she said.
"I don't think so, maybe he blocked your number," Annie spoke up.
Evelyn's mom gave Annie a serious look. "Stop talking absurdly, you are just adding more salt to her injury."
As for Evelyn, she just wailed in silence.
"Well, I'm sorry ma but Evelyn needs to see Chase's true colors and stop being blunt. She is pretty enough to find another man, much better than Chase or his likes."
"Alright but we can't conclude yet, until we have a solid prove that Chase was indeed the one that sent her that message," Andrea said.
Annie nodded and began to pace around the room, possibly thinking of a way to expose Chase for who he was.
"Wait, I have an idea," she shouted but not so loudly.
"Idea of?"
"The way we can find out if Chase really sent that message," she replied.
Evelyn raised her head at once, looking at Annie with so much interest.
Of course, she had much trust in Chase that she believed that whatever idea her best friend had, would turn against her and not her fiancée.
"I will use my phone to call Chase, if by any chance he picks up, then it will be clear to the both of you that he was indeed the one behind that awful message."
She brought out her phone from the little sling purse she had in her hand, then she dialed Chase's line.
As soon as she dialed his number, he picked up. She wanted to hang up but Evelyn's mother gave her a signal to hold on.
"Hey," Chase said, his voice could be clearly heard by them.
"Hey," he repeated but Annie remained quiet. Andrea had given her a signal to say nothing.
"What is....
Before he could complete his sentence, Evelyn burst out with swear words.
"How dare you to this to me?" She shouted with rage and emotion.
Before she could say anything further, Annie hung up.
When Evelyn noticed what she did, she began to attack her with words.
Andrea and Annie tried calming her down but she wasn't having it.
"Pull yourself together Eve, I told you that he is not worth your tears. He is just a total scumbag," she said, while patting her on the back.
"Why did he have to humiliate me in this way? He should have simply told me that he had no interest in me any longer," she said, in between tears.
"Be calm dear, I will go and inform your father about this, so he can find a way to tell the guests to leave," Andrea said, and walked out of the room.
As soon as she left, Annie gave her best friend a tight hug. "Everything will be fine trust me, it's his loss and not yours. One day he will come back running to you and begging you to take him back," she comforted her with those words.
"I wish he would but if he could be this heartless, I never think that he will be able to come back to me. I'm such a useless person. I could not even keep the one man I had in my life," she said, still crying.
"Stop crying, Chase would be very happy to find out that you are in this condition. You are very pretty, any man in his right senses would consider you the best thing ever. Things just didn't work out between the two of you but that does not mean that you are useless or incompetent."
"Chase is a bastard and so he doesn't deserve a rare gem like you in his life. If I was in your shoes, trust me, I would consider this a blessing in disguise."
Evelyn laughed hard when she heard what Annie had said. "You of all people know that you can never be in my shoes. You are like the dream of any man. You are pretty, bold, sexy, outspoken and charming. You are also very hardworking and successful."
"With all these attributes, I still don't have a relationship of my own," Annie voiced, with sadness in her eyes.
