She later sits down to contemplate on her life and disappointment. She's in tears and comforted by her sister, Lily. She says that been kind makes a girl used.
Mr Donald, Evelyn's father walked into the room. "You mom told me all that happened," he said, as he moved to sit close to his daughter.
Evelyn nodded, while using her palm to dry the tears that had clustered in her eyes.
"Dad, please take me home. There's nothing left to do here," she said.
"Alright, we will leave as soon as all the guests are gone, in order to avoid any form of scandal," he replied. In
She nodded, then he stood up and left the room.
"I'm sorry about what happened to you. Today would have surely been the happiest day of your life but Chase chose to ruin it for you."
"There is no need to talk about him anymore, I do not want to hear his name any longer."
"Alright. I have to leave now, it’s a long way to Manhattan, I had to postpone everything at the office for this wedding but it didn't push through. I will have to go back now and put things in order, I hope you do not mind?"
"Not at all. Thanks for your kind words of comfort and encouragement," she said with a smile. That smile was indeed a forced one because Annie was her best friend, the least she could do was be by her side but here she was, thinking of going back to work.
"Very well then, I will take my leave now. I will give you a call later on, please be save and forget about that scum," she said and left, not waiting to hear what her best friend had to reply with.
Guess the unfinished work she had, was very important.
Later on, Evelyn and her family went back home. She had a sister, who was currently not within the country, so she was not able to attend the wedding.
She called Evelyn on the night of her supposed wedding, to hear details of how the wedding had gone.
"Hello sis, how was your wedding?" Lily asked her across the phone.
There was a short silence after Lily's question, after which Evelyn let out a deep sigh.
"What is wrong? Did anything happen? Why don't you sound happy?" Lily attacked her with loads of questions.
"There was no wedding," she finally answered.
"What do you mean by that? All your life, you have wished for this, so what had gone wrong all of a sudden? Today is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, Eve, please say something. You are making me worried."
"Chase dumped me," she replied.
"What!" she exclaimed.
"Stop giving me slow answers. Please tell me what really happened. Why did he dump you and when?"
Evelyn breathed in, gathering the amount of air needed to tell her sister everything that had happened earlier.
"He never showed up at the wedding hall. I tried calling him several times but he just wasn't taking my calls. At a point I thought that he was in some sort of trouble, so I texted him...."
She paused.
"Hey go on, why did you stop?" Lily asked.
"Then after some minutes passed, I saw his text. Mom and Annie were in the room with me when I clicked on the message. I can't really remember all the contents of the message but in the text, he made it clear that the wedding wasn't going through, he also mentioned having another woman in his life, who he was going to get married to," She gradually explained everything to her sister.
"How could he do such a terrible thing to you? For crying out loud, you are like the sweetest person ever, he should be ashamed of himself for doing such a thing to you. If I ever happen to come across him, I will make sure I hit him so hard because that is what he really deserves for messing with my sister," Lily voiced, anger could be clearly heard in her voice.
"He is gone now and probably married to the other woman that he mentioned in the message. I believe that there is no need to cry over spilt milk anymore. I am just very unlucky when it comes to men, so I have decided to focus more on my career," she said to her sister.
"Please never call yourself unlucky. Chase just happened to be the wrong man for you, so that does not make you unlucky. Look at it from a positive angle, you should be happy that he did not marry you because if he had, you would not have been happy. He would have continuously cheated on you with that other woman. You would have gone nuts thinking of everything."
"Thank you sis but for now I have decided to focus on my career. I will try as much as possible to get over what Chase did to me but I can't let another man into my life. It would be very hard for me to trust another man, after the humiliation I had today. I would rather prefer to work my butt off than believe the lies of another man," she voiced out.
"Alright then, it is your life and so I believe that you know what's best. Whatever decision you make, just bear it in mind that I am solidary behind you. I love you so much, please take care of yourself and do not overthink yourself about all that happened today."
"I love you too. Take care of yourself and try to make out time to come visit us over here," Evelyn said.
"Of course, I will come home very soon. I miss you all. Goodnight, I will leave you to get a good sleep because I am hundred percent sure that you are tired."
They bade each other farewell and hung up. There was this similarity between Annie and Lily, Evelyn's sister and her best friend.
