Chapter 14 Ted could not remember it ever being this dark. The blackness seemed to envelope him. It was oppressive and more than a little unnerving. The stillness almost matched the darkness. It was only the scratching and rustling sound near the door that invaded the space. He was sure it was only mice or rats, but still unsettling. The cold came creeping through his pants. The shivering started anew, so he knew he must stand and move around. Pulling his legs under him he was able to push himself up. He now realized that his toes were turning numb, so he hopped in place until the blood started flowing again. This exercise caused his whole body to warm a bit, so he began to explore the room. He knew the door was to his left so he moved in that direction with back to the wall.
