Ophelia’s POV
I woke up feeling amazing, it was possibly the best nap i have ever had in my life. I glanced at my phone, it felt so weird to have free access to it. It was 8pm, wow I had really enjoyed a long nap. I noticed that there were literally hundreds of messages from John. I read a couple of them, they ranged from begging me to come back to threatening me if I didn’t come back. I decided to send him a reply, it said simply “Please leave me alone.” There was a message back from Mom asking if everything was ok and if I needed help. I replied that I would call tomorrow to talk, but everything was alright right now.
My tummy rumbled, I realized that I hadn’t eaten much all day and certainly felt it now. I got out of the super comfortable bed and heard voices outside of the bedroom. Naomi’s friends must have come over, how exciting to meet some witches! I wondered if I had ever met a witch before? I went to the guest bathroom, which was attached to the guest bedroom, and changed back into my favourite summer dress and brushed my long blonde hair. It felt amazing. I was free and excited to learn more about my mysterious gift.
I left the room and saw Naomi sitting in the living room with a middle aged woman and man. Naomi’s big brown eyes lit up when she saw Me. The other two gave me the kindest smiles ever.
Naomi got up and spoke, “Ophelia I would like you to meet Hazel and Zane. They are two of the most wonderful folks ever and will help you learn about yourself.”
I went forward to shake hands, but was swept into a huge hug from Hazel. “It’s so nice to meet you, so you are..” I paused not quite sure she should just say it.
“Witches?” Zane had a glisten is his dark eyes as he said the word, “Yes, we sure are, well rather I am a warlock, and very happy to meet a witch who is new to her powers. This will be so much fun teaching you everything there is to know!”
“Our twins are 15 and should be able to start feeling their powers soon, if they are gifted any, so we have been prepping our own version of magic school! We are thrilled to run a crash course for you!” Hazel excitedly chirped to me.
“Wow! Yesterday I didn’t know witches were a thing, I thought I was seriously losing my mind and today I find out I am one, and meet two more!” I was in awe. My tummy gave a loud rumble.
“It’s a lot to take in,” Naomi said, “I knew you would wake up starving, I also sensed that you love sushi, I hope my senses weren’t off because there is an absolute sushi feast arriving in about 5 minutes!”
I was so excited, I did love sushi and it had been years since she I had gotten to eat any! John was a meat and potatoes kind of guy, no seafood or fish of any kind appealed to him and he had always called me high maintenance when I had suggested we didn’t have to eat the same thing. I gave Naomi a hug. “I am so thankful for you, I know we just met but I feel like I have known you my whole life. I just feel safe,” I thanked Naomi.
“Some things are meant to be, some people have fated connections,” Hazel explained, “ the universe always seems to find a way to bring them together. Close friends, lovers, people who have something important to share with another.”
“Were you and Zane fated to be together?” I asked. I had noticed an absolute look of love flowing between Hazel and Zane. I swear I could feel an aura of happiness radiating off of the two of them. I had been around lots of married couples in my life, especially my adoptive parents, but I had never felt a couple’s love radiating off of them before.
“Yes,” Zane and Hazel replied in unison. “I was 18 and in my first year of university, I had felt some weird pull to go to Paris. I left school and followed this weird sensation to go to the Eiffel Tower, I was so confused as to why I would want to go by myself. I even had a girlfriend at the time and she was not happy that I didn’t take her.” Zane continued, “ I was standing below the tower looking at it, I had the feeling that I was waiting for someone, suddenly a young woman tripped into me and spilled coffee all over me. I started to get angry until I looked at her face and saw the most beautiful blue eyes staring at me. I just knew that this is the girl I was going to love forever.”
“It was magical,” said Hazel, “literally, I grabbed his hand and being that we are both witches who were young and novices at controlling our energy we had sparks shoot out when our hands met. We certainly scared a few onlookers.”
I teared up, I loved love. I had always been a romantic at heart, ever since I was little I had an idea that I would meet someone who would sweep me off of my feet and that would be that. We would love each other unconditionally and be so happy. John had started out treating me like a princess and I had believed that he was my knight in shining armour. I had begun the relationship expecting the fairytale romance to last, I’m sure my expectation that it would helped blind me from the fact that my relationship was growing abusive. “That is the best love story,” I told them, “so beautiful.”
“A beautiful couple indeed,” said Naomi, “wait until you meet their twins. A beautiful girl and handsome boy, this is honestly the most picturesque family you will ever meet.”
Naomi jumped up and ran to the door, I was confused as I hadn’t heard the doorbell ring. Just as I was about to ask if everything was ok, the doorbell did ring. Naomi chuckled and reminded me that she could sense things. The sushi had arrived. It was an absolute feast. I loaded up a huge plate and started digging in, it was absolutely heavenly. Naomi walked over to me and gave me a strange look. “Ophelia, there is someone else coming tonight. One of the doctors from the clinic I work in. He’s the one I told about your situation. I don’t know if it’s the best idea for you to meet him yet… but he was insistent on coming.”
I looked at her quizzically, “Why might it not be a good idea?” I asked between bites of sushi.
Naomi was about to answer when the door opened. The most handsome man I had ever laid eyes on walked through the door. I froze and stared at him. He was literally tall, dark, and handsome. He had chiseled features, a glowing complexion, and dark eyes that I could get lost in. He smelled amazing too. I felt my pulse speed up and I was instantly aroused just by his presence. I felt an intense aura coming off of him, one that made me crave him. He looked at me, made eye contact and froze.
Naomi got up, shut the door behind him and led him to the seat across from me. She gave a little chuckle as she saw us locked in an intense staring match, neither of us able to look away. “This is Hector,” she introduced the handsome doctor to me.
