Sainapei's relationship with Martin was one of its own kind. They were just not dating, but they shared a soul, something deeper than love, a bond, an unshakable bond.
Time then came for them to travel back home, to Africa. The NEC had already assigned them places of work in different law firms back in Africa. They caught their flight on time and three hours later, they landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya.
"Finally, back home."Sainapei said with a smile as they took a cab with Martin.
"I miss this place."Martin said.
They had already been given their own apartments but in different locations near their work places. They checked both houses and they were good.
They then had dinner at a fancy restaurant and Martin then gave his story. It was almost similar with Sainaipei's but he had come from a rich family with a Masai mother and a Gikuyu father. His parents divorced when he was fifteen then his mother, who had stayed with him succumbed to her cancer illness. That was when he was taken to a children's home and after a long journey of hard work and recognition, he found himself in Birmingham and now he was a lawyer by profession.
"The most important thing is that destiny was ready to give us a better life and a great pay of our hard work." Sainapei said this time with a serious tone.
"So now, should we just focus on our various law firms?" Martin asked.
" I actually want us to start a foundation to support the girl child in the society. We will provide them with the various things that they need, find them a way to go school and get jobs for the young women after training them on different skills." Sainapei explained intelligently.
"That's a great thought, Sainapei, but of course we first have to save for all that." Martin proposed.
"You're right, yeah, it's not easy."
That was Sainapei's mission. She had gone through enough and wanted to change the stories of many other girls just like hers was changed for the better. Her law firm took her swiftly. She dealt mostly with cases on gender violence and discrimination, and greatly, she always worn all her cases. She was promoted now and then and her salary also increased. In her free times, she would go speak to different girls in different institutions and in prisons as well.
Three years later, Sainapei had managed to save enough and was ready to start her foundation. She worked on all the necessary paper work. She was able to get a building with Martin's help and they came up with a great brand name; Qwinns Empire Foundation It cost her a fortune but as time went by, she got different individuals and companies who sponsored Qwinns. The empire grew bigger and broader everyday. They offered so many products that they made and distributed to very many institutions in the whole of Africa. They also gave training sessions of different skills to young women who had not gown to school and others who had dropped out and given up in life completely. They were then given jobs after all the sessions. Qwinns also sponsored students to study abroad after they passed their final examinations.
After sometime, they built branches all over the world. So many willing individuals and companies continued supporting QEF. Sainapei just looked at all these and just sat back with a proud smile. It had only taken her a natural experience and a sad told story and now she was the CEO of one of the greatest foundations in the whole world.Oh my.
" We have to go somewhere," Sainapei said to Martin as they walked to her car.
"To where exactly?" He asked.
"Somewhere you will not like."
It was a long drive and they finally got to a small village with manyattas scattered all over. They then drove into a small home with one old manyatta.Sainapei then took Martin's hand and they went to a small raised part of the ground.
"This is my great grandmother's grave." she said as they stared at it for sometime then left. The next home they drove into, was big, full of manyattas and cattle. It looked like a village on its own and when the people there saw their car, they came running thinking it were the colonies who had come for their women. When Sainapei got out of the car, they were shocked,
"Nasieku,Nasieku!" a woman shouted.
"Yes, she's back." another yelled.
"No, I'm Sainapei, Nasieku's daughter." she said trying the little Masai language she knew.
"Oh, my daughter," an old woman said.
They were welcomed warmly Sainapei told them the whole story. They were sad to hear that Sintoyia too had died. They then said that her father, Ole Kule, had died of old age. They left the village and the following day, they came with tracks of food and distributed to almost all the villages.
Sainapei then said that schools should be build and immediately, construction began. To schools were build, a primary and a highschool, a training centre, a hospital, a trading centre. FGM and early marrieges slowly ended as girls joined the schools and studied free of charge. At the launching ceremony, Sainapei gave a speech,
"I'm only hear to say that , it's not always all about being successful and having lots of money, no, it's about impacting a change. Until when, will we, the Masai girl child, suffer in the hands of our own community.Until when, will we be governed by the long gone cultures and believes which make us practice unhygienic practices putting our lives at great risk. Until when, will we be the neglated ones in our own country reason being our ignorance. Today, I want us to resurrect into a new life with difference and see the results. Thank you."
It was a great speech. She was the happiest person ever, seeing her success change the society for the better. Though she had no one bloodly related to her, she felt that she had just saved a whole generation that was falling.
As they sat comfortably watching news on how QEF was a changing the whole world, Martin knelt before Sainapei and said with a golden ring on his hand,
"Will you be my sunshine forever?"
" Yes I will." Sainapei said and Martin carefully rolled the ring down to her finger then kissed her gently.
Sainapei Williams then published her first book, UNTIL WHEN, with over a million copies sold all over the world. Wow!
THE END.
