Chapter 1

Olivia was passing him love notes. The teachers voice droned on. The boy behind him was continuously humming. The music blared into his right ear from his earphones. Everything was an apparent distraction, but all Adam Jones could think about was her. The way she just sat there, scribbling notes down onto her paper, blocking out the world, everyone and everything but him. An uneven smile formed and he slumped into his seat, ruffling his dark hair. He couldn't take his eyes off her, her caramel colored skin, the gentle waves in her shoulder length hair, the dark green orbs that scanned the room every now and then when she returned back to reality. Bonnie Green was his weakness. She was supposed to be his arch nemesis, but he couldn't hate her, despite her origin. The two had been through so much pain together, so many struggles, that he couldn't keep track. He was in love with her but he knew it could never happen.. It wasn't meant to be.
His mood immediately disheartened at the thought, Adam chewed the inside of his cheek, before feeling a set of eyes on him. Exhaling softly, he turned around and saw her, the blue eyes met his and the girl twirled her golden hair flirtatiously. "You. Me. Music room- lunch." She mouthed, smirking and turning away. An uneasiness grew within him and Adam moved to face the front, glancing at Bonnie and noticing her face had fallen. He was arranged to be married off to Olivia Andrews, the blonde, and he knew it hurt Bonnie, it hurt him. Olivia was the 'perfect girl.' She had amazing grades, was associated with the right sorts, had the same upbringing and lineage as him, whereas Bonnie was the opposite, yes, she had the same grades, but not the right family or upbringing, or even beliefs. His family would never approve; they had already chosen him a wife anyway. Scribbling a note for her, Adam stood up and went to solve and equation on the board for the professor, dropping it on the desk in front of Bonnie and his way back to his seat with a slight frown.

She had just glanced up at him for a second, she needed to feel the security of his actions, see those deep brown eyes and the gentle tan of his skin. Bonnie had been feeling sick to her stomach due to another assignment she had been given by the Snakes and she had hoped to meet his eyes and melt, to allow everything to fade away, to talk to him later. But of course, Olivia had his attention. She always did. Scrunching up her nose as she knew exactly what the blonde was implying, hurt flashed across her face and almost immediately, Adam was looking back at her. Averting her gaze back to her book, Bonnie felt her phone vibrate. Pulling it out, she saw the message and grew pale '5 minutes.' it was from Nina, her older sister. She was about to reply when a small piece of paper was placed sneakily on her desk.
''Meet me, at our place in free period. Let's talk? -A x'
Sending Adam a weak smile, she nodded and glanced at the time. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... The bell. Grabbing her bags, Bonnie rushed out the classroom to see Nina, her long plaits now with turquoise ends. "Hurry." She muttered, glancing at her older sister as they slid into the basement, glancing worriedly behind them. Bonnie and Adam were juniors at Parker high school, and Nina was a senior so it was quite easy for it to not be seen as suspicious behavior, just two sisters who appear to be having a fight.. The basement was were the Snakes insiders met up to discuss logistics and their plans. The two Green daughters were the heir's to the 'gang,' though Nina was first in line for commander and Bonnie had many other plans for her future that would involve sneakiness and completely changing her identity. "We're here Gray." The younger daughter spoke up first, "Let's just get this done, now." She watched as smoky figures emerged from the shadows and she pulled out a cell phone.
"This is Nicholas Buckley's cell. Enter a tracking device, Lionel, and then I will return it as soon as possible." Nina began, looking down at her younger sister. "Bonnie will then follow him to their hideout after school and plant a bomb, set with a timer for 3:00, that will blow up the hideout, as well as anything within a 4 mile radius, so Bonnie we need you to drive, fast." Bonnie turned pale and nodded, before moving away and leaning against a wall, she was going to commit mass murder and destruction and she was too much of a coward to stand up for her own beliefs. She watched as Lionel Gray, their technical adviser and another senior, entered the tacking device and then linked her phone with Nicholas Buckley's.
Once it was done, she stormed out of the basement, her heart pounding, Bonnie went straight for the toilets, intending to bunk her next lesson, before her stride was intercepted by Adam; she had forgotten it was free period before lunch. Exchanging one meaningful look with him, she let her tears fall and moved into his arms. The two sat underneath the stairs, their own hiding place, in the corridor where only the goths hung out and he held her, stroking her hair. Bonnie tried to stay strong, but this was one of the few times she had let her guard down on an assignment and she hated it. "I can't do it A.. I can't plant the bomb there.. It's mass murder Adam! I can't.. I can't.. I just.. I can't.. There are going to be innocent people there, and I just don't have the courage to stop this.." She sat up, wiping her face with her long sleeve, her heart pounding. She already knew that the guilt would be enough to override her emotions and she would be a wreck.

Adam couldn't bear it, seeing Bonnie in such a state, he understood everything that she was going through perfectly, and it's something he could relate too all to well. "Bon, listen to me ok. Whatever happens, it is not your fault, these people, they have done just as many bad things as you, maybe more. They are all associated in trying to hurt you. Don't blame yourself for any of these, do you understand me?" He muttered wrapping an arm around her and squeezing her hand with the other. "I would go with you, heck, I would do it myself, but you know my father.. He would hear about it." Adam kissed the top of her head and moved so he was cupping her cheeks, wiping away her tears with his thumb. "You promise you call me when you're safe?" He whispered, his brow furrowed as he held out his index finger. Sniffling, Bonnie wrapped her own index finger around his and nodded, a small smile forming "I promise.." She replied, trying not to think about it as she moved to lie back in his arms, escaping to their own world.
