CHAPTER 2 - The Auction Hall

CALISTA SYLVERINE’S POV “Do you think we’ll be sold at a considerably high price?” “Of course! I heard that there are a lot of highly-influential people as bidders. And not just that—there’s even around 10 VVIPs tonight!” “W-why are we even here? As far as I can remember, I only went out to head for a job interview… And then… I don’t know! I don’t know how I got here.” I furrowed my eyebrows the second that I heard some women whispering while some were already silently sobbing. I moved my index finger, trying to feel whether this was a dream or not. And when I realized I was in reality, I finally opened my eyes to realize that I have regained consciousness. “What the f**k?” I mumbled as I stared at myself in the mirror. I was seated in front of a large mirror and beside me was a table filled with mesmerizing makeup tools. Glancing down my body, I saw a turquoise micro-string bra and undies that covered my private parts. That was the only piece of fabric that covered my body. Everything else was exposed. “Why the heck am I dressed like this? Where the hell am I? How did I get here?” I hysterically asked myself. Roaming my eyes around the dim room, I stood up and approached one of the women who was nearby. “Where are we?” I held both of her shoulders, aggressively swaying them. “H-huh?” Confusion painted her face. “We’re in the dressing room of the auction hall. Did you just wake up from a long dream? You were here before most of us arrived, why bother asking me?” She rolled her eyes, pushing me away. “What a creep,” she further murmured as she left. This can’t be possible. Just a little while ago, I was still in my parents’ mansion. I clearly remember how I lost consciousness, so how did I travel all the way here? And worse, we’re at an auction hall! “I’m getting out of this place.” I clenched my teeth in anger, recalling how my parents f****d up with my life. In an attempt to pass through the exit, I was pushed back by two bulky men. They were enormous and it doesn’t look like they are nice people. “Let me out of this place. I have to get back to my parents and give them the hell they deserve,” I coldly said, which they only replied with a mere stern gaze. “Hey, go back to your designated seat. You’re causing a commotion for everyone here. Don’t you know that you’re not the only one here?” a woman raised her voice on me and she was together with two more women who had both of their arms crossed. Seeing how I had no other choice, I returned to my seat with a heavy sigh and decided to just go with the flow. Several minutes later, a loud round of applause caused me to peep through the thick curtains covering the dressing room. I saw a tall man, standing on the podium with a mic, facing the audience. “A pleasant morning ladies and gentlemen. I appreciate all your time and effort to attend tonight’s big auction,” he said, then pointed his finger towards his back. “This is going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity for you. Why? It’s because all of the ones for tonight’s lot are people… Real, fresh people! They were all consigned by their parents… Can you imagine how sad that is for them?” he shook his head, pretending to be emotional. Such a bastard. I wish I could slit his throat right here and now. “Which is why we are here. We’re giving them a special opportunity for their lives not to be wasted on the streets! I sincerely hope that you would bid to your heart’s fullest. The auction will begin in a short while,” the auctioneer ended his introduction and that was our cue to line up. I still can’t forgive my parents for deceiving me. However, I also can’t stop myself from crying now that I am about to be bought by a complete stranger. I blankly stared mid-air, letting my subconscious take over. I didn’t even notice that it was already my turn for the bidders to claim me. “Alright. This woman right here, Calista Sylverine, has been abandoned right when she was a kid. Her parents extremely regretted their decision of leaving her behind. However, when they reunited, she didn’t even listen to a word her parents told her. Calista single-handedly took the lives of her own parents…” The auctioneer announced, sending disgust throughout the hall. “The bidding price is only a hundred thousand dollars, with half of it as increments.” The bidders were all hesitant. No one raised their numbers. “Hmm… This is a little sad to see. Do you want to know a fact about Miss Sylverine that no one else knows?” The man stood beside me, wrapping his arm around my waist. He faced me and slowly sniffed my neck, brushing his nose to my ears. “Miss Sylverine is actually a she-wolf,” he said, planting a smirk on his lips. “You all know how rare it is to see a wolf living with us in this human world, right? Now, I’m sure that you’re all—” “I’ll take her home! Double the price… No, make it triple!” one of the bidders said, cutting off the auctioneer. “W-what the f**k did you say? I’m a human! Why are you making them eager to buy me?” “You can lie to everyone else, but not me, Miss Sylverine…” The auctioneer pointed at his nose. “I’m a lone wolf… I can definitely sense when one of my kind is within my vicinity. You may not have realized it by now, but you’re actually favored by the Moon Goddess. Who knows? You might be lucky enough to be bought by someone from another world.” The bid went on for about half an hour before they all gave up. No one matched the bid of a man who raised the price up to three billion dollars. Even if I grew old working my butt off left and right, I would never reach a million dollars in my bank. But… This man is willing to throw away three f*****g billion dollars just for me. “I’ve already called and asked for any other increments. None followed. Miss Sylverine is hereby sold to bidder number 72, the Delta of the Crimson Moon Pack, Xander Ambrose!” the auctioneer announced, causing the rest of the bidders to congratulate whoever that was. I bit my lower lip as I was accompanied by the guards to the person who had the highest bid. He didn’t look like a bad person, but if I would judge him from where he came from, I should be wary of him, knowing that he’s a high-ranking official of a pack that I am not aware of. “I’d like you to come with me, Miss Sylverine,” the delta said as he lent his right hand to me, which I casually held like I’ve known him for long. Stepping out of the auction hall and the entire building where we walked out of, Delta Ambrose shoved a masquerade mask to my face, forcing me to wear it. “You’ll need that before you can enter our world without being questioned by the Moon Goddess. I’ll be driving us to our destination, and since it’ll be quite a while, I suggest that you take your sweet time to rest in the car. I bet that you haven’t had a proper rest since the time you arrived at the hall,” he explained, leading the way inside his long, black limousine. I did as I was told. I don’t know how much time passed by, but the second I opened my eyes, I knew that I was no longer in our world. “Get off, Miss Sylverine. I don’t want to keep him waiting,” the delta commanded. My arm was intertwined with his as we walked towards the entrance of what seemed to be a bar. There were a lot of people inside but I could barely hear any noise. It’s like they were inside a library. “Excuse me, but who are you talking about? Is someone waiting for me?” I asked. Delta Ambrose nodded his head. “The Alpha of the Crimson Moon Pack, August Donovan, is awaiting your arrival, Miss Sylverine,” he seriously replied.
