THREE YEARS LATER ZADE LETHAL. If there was something being a king has taught me, it was never to miss important meetings held by other kings. Right now I was on the road and traveling to the human territory where we, the kings of the supernatural realms, along with the Prime Minister of the human world, would be convening a meeting to address a pressing issue that had been plaguing both our worlds for far too long. I was quite sure they would be stunned to see me in attendance. This was my first time in five years attending the meeting, simply because I had never deemed it worthy of my attention. My past absence had been a deliberate choice, driven by my apathy towards the proceedings. “Are you sure you want to attend this year's meeting?” Rayan’s voice interrupted my thoughts, I turned my neck and gave him a nod. He laughed, making me lift my brow in questioning as I didn’t understand what was so funny. “Care to inform me of what I said that was funny?” I questioned, clearing my throat. “I’m only picturing the faces of the other leaders that would be in attendance at this year’s meeting. You do know they dislike you a lot, right? Especially the griffins.” His words made me roll my eyes, the griffins were in no class close to me. They couldn’t even afford to stand in the same room as me, pathetic beings. “I have no business with any leader there, my only concern is to listen to what is so important that the prime minister had to force me to attend.” I stated. “It must be something huge, we will find out soon.” Rayan said, adjusting properly in his seat. In order to ignore him and his unending conversations, I plugged in my Airpods and began listening to a podcast. I zoned out for a while until a tap from Rayan brought me back to reality, making me realize we had arrived at the prime minister's mansion. I could see a lot of cars parked at their respective places, I also had mine parked at my parking slot that had my name on it. Rayan seemed rather too excited to be here, it suddenly clicked to me that his crush, Gabriela, the prime minister’s daughter would be here as this is her home. “If you keep on making that face, I assure you that Gabriela will not want to be with you.” I teased him but I sounded rather too serious. “Why do you always have to be a mood ruiner?” Rayan asked, I chuckled. “I was only kidding my friend.” I found it hard to say sorry, but from my words he nodded. I ruffled his hair, I knew he hated it but I still did anyway earning me a chuckle from him. Leaving everything behind, we walked down from the car and headed for the main entrance where a lot of guards and Gabriela stood to welcome us. Certainly, the smile on Rayan’s face grew wider at the sight of her. “Welcome King Zade, we are so glad you could make it.” Gabriela said to me, completely ignoring Rayan, whose face fell flat. I held everything in me not to laugh at him, knowing how bad he felt right now. “Thank you,” she tried putting a flower over my neck which I instantly declined rudely by putting my hands in the air and walking away from her with my guards trailing behind me. Every supernatural leader had their chamber in the mansion and I was familiar with mine because it belonged to my father who I had accompanied in the past to these meetings. Behind me, Rayan walked fast until he caught up to me. “Why were you so rude to her?” Rayan asked. “Why was she ignoring you?” I asked, feeling bad for my poor friend. “Aww, you did that because of me? That’s sweet, but you shouldn’t have done that, you hurt her feelings you know.” he said, I stopped in my tracks. “Why are you so attracted to that woman who never gives you her attention? Are you so desperate for love that you refuse to see that she doesn't want anything to do with you?” I said collectively, picking my words in anger. Rayan swallowed a lump. “It is love, she’s my mate.” He revealed, making everything more sensible. “A human? Your mate?” I had to make sure he knew what he was speaking about. “Yeah, she’s my mate and I can’t help but love her. You will only understand this if you have found your mate.” He said, leading me to reminiscing on the day, three years ago where I had accepted my mates rejection. There was no way I would be seen with a child as a mate. “Yeah you’re right, I would have understood and I’m glad I do not.” I grumbled and continued my journey toward my room. I and Rayan went our separate ways, he went to his room and I entered mine which was sparklingly clean, just as I liked it. My guards had arranged my luggage so I decided to take a bath. I entered the bathroom and filled the bathtub with hot water and sat in it. I was enjoying the temperature and the scent of my snake perfume shower gel I had poured in the water. It reminded me of the night of my coronation as king. After spending about an hour in the water, I decided to come out of it and wash my body thoroughly. When I was done, I wrapped myself in a towel and walked out of my room only to meet a woman seated on my bed. She was reading a book and looked very comfortable. “Who are you?” I asked, she turned to me, a shocked expression on her face. It was then I recognized her, it was my mate. The girl whose rejection I had accepted three years ago, she looked nothing like three years ago. She was dressed in a white shirt and leather pants, and her brown hair was made into a bun. From the look on her face, and the way her brown eyes twitched, I was certain she recognized me. Before she could speak, I beat her to it. “If you are here to beg me to rekindle our mate bond, that is not going to happen and you would be wasting your time.” I stated, knowing fully what women like her wanted. "Excuse me, what bond are you talking about? You must be joking, Zade. I'm here because this used to be my boyfriend's room, and I was told he had arrived. I came here to wait for him, not knowing it was you in the room. I had no idea you'd be here, let alone in his space." She stated firmly, disgust in her voice. Hearing the word boyfriend from her seemed to have annoyed my wolf, I could hear him growl with need as he stared at her through my eyes. Not just that, I felt angry hearing her say this. Suddenly, a knock came on the door and in walked Xander, the king of the vampires, he looked very excited and immediately hugged my mate who hugged him back, he then turned to me and smiled. “Hi Zade, this used to be my room. I’m very sorry, my girlfriend didn’t know that you would be here.” Xander said, a smile on his face. Oh I hated his smile even more, especially with his hands around my mates waist. I fought everything in me to maintain my composure. “It’s okay, could you both please excuse me? I’d love to get some rest.” I asked politely, trying my best not to expose my anger. “Of course, have a nice day and it’s great to have you finally attending a meeting for once.” He stated, I forced a smile as I watched them both walk out, my eyes not leaving his arm around her waist. They claimed her as though she was theirs. This made me so mad, I didn’t know why but I couldn’t just stand the idea of him being this close to my mate. Was I feeling jealousy? No that is impossible, I cannot possibly be jealous over a woman I do not love. I took a seat and reached for the sealed bottle of water in the room, I drank from it and tried to clear my head until my eyes landed on my mate's book, she had forgotten it. I picked it up, her scent lingered on it, distracting me from the title of the book. I decided to read through it, a scowl formed on my face as I realized the content of the chapter which was filled with love making. That didn't piss me off, but the idea of Xander touching her in these ways angered me a lot, making me realize that the mate bond had not been broken and it had a great effect on me.
