What Now

Lyra stepped closer, studying Aria carefully. “So it’s true.” Aria raised an eyebrow. “What is?” “You carry the moon’s power.” Torren glanced toward the forest. “Vargan woke the whole continent tonight.” Aria frowned. “He did what?” Darius smiled slightly. “When a Moonborn appears… every Alpha hears the call.” Kael stiffened. “That’s not possible.” Darius shrugged. “Yet here we are.” Aria rubbed her temple. “So let me guess. You all want to kidnap me.” Lyra shook her head. “No.” Torren cracked his knuckles. “We want to make a deal.” Aria lowered her hand. “…I’m listening.” Kael turned sharply. “Aria—” “Relax,” she said. “I’m not signing anything in blood.” Darius stepped forward. “Vargan is planning a war.” “That part we figured out,” Aria replied. “But with you,” Lyra continued, “he could control every pack.” Torren nodded. “No Alpha could resist the Moonborn.” Aria tilted her head. “So you’re all here to… what?” “Prevent that,” Darius said. Lyra folded her arms. “We propose an alliance.” Aria blinked. “You want me to join your pack?” “No,” Lyra said. “We want you to stand above them.” Silence filled the street. Even Kael looked surprised. Aria pointed to herself. “You want me to lead all the wolves.” Torren shrugged. “More or less.” “That’s insane.” Darius chuckled. “Perhaps.”
