Unwelcome Guest

237 Words
The ground trembled slightly as a massive wolf stepped out of the trees. The Alpha looked almost amused as he surveyed the gathered packs. “Well,” Vargan said. “This is quite the meeting.” Lyra growled. “You’re not welcome here.” Vargan ignored her. His red eyes locked on Aria. “Have they started negotiating for your loyalty yet?” Aria sighed. “Yeah. It’s been a whole thing.” Vargan chuckled. “I thought so.” He stepped forward into the moonlight. “Allow me to offer a better deal.” Kael moved in front of Aria again. “You’ve done enough talking tonight.” Vargan tilted his head. “Oh, Kael.” His voice dropped into something darker. “You know she belongs with wolves.” Aria rolled her eyes. “Wow. Love the possessive tone.” Vargan’s gaze never left her. “You can stand with them.” He gestured to the other Alphas. “Or with me.” The red glow in his eyes deepened. “And I promise you this…” The forest seemed to grow quieter. More tense. “If you choose wrong…” His smile widened slightly. “The next village won’t survive.” Silence fell across Blackridge again. Four Alphas. Hundreds of wolves. All waiting for Aria’s answer. And for the first time— She realized something terrifying. Whatever she decided tonight… Would start a war.
