Who Will it Be

The silence in Blackridge felt heavier than the night itself. Four Alphas stood in the street. Hundreds of wolves waited in the forest. And every eye was on Aria. Vargan watched her like a predator certain of its prey. “Well?” he asked softly. “Have you decided?” Aria rubbed her neck, glancing between the rival Alphas and Kael. “This might be the worst group project I’ve ever been part of.” No one laughed. Lyra stepped forward slightly. “Moonborn… the decision is yours.” Torren added bluntly, “Choose carefully.” Darius simply folded his hands behind his back, watching. Kael leaned closer to Aria. “You don’t have to do this.” She looked at him. “I kind of do.” “Why?” Aria gestured toward the ruined village. “Because if I don’t, he burns the next one.” Kael didn’t argue with that. Aria turned back to the Alphas. “Okay,” she said loudly enough for all the wolves to hear. “Let’s make this simple.” The packs stirred. Even Vargan tilted his head in interest. Aria pointed toward Lyra, Torren, and Darius. “You three want an alliance.” Lyra nodded. “Yes.” “You want me to help stop Vargan.” Torren crossed his arms. “Correct.” “And you’re willing to work together long enough to do it.” Darius smiled slightly. “For survival? Absolutely.” Aria exhaled. “Alright.”
