Awakened

The air trembled. Aria stood at the center of the shattered village road, silver light blazing around her like living lightning. The power rising inside her felt wild and ancient, something far older than the forest itself. The ground beneath her boots cracked again. Across the clearing, Vargan watched with unsettling calm. His red eyes glowed brighter, reflecting the moonlight swirling around her. “Now this,” he said with a slow clap, “is interesting.” Kael stepped closer to Aria’s side. He could feel it too. The energy radiating from her rolled across the battlefield like heat from a fire. The wolves surrounding them had begun backing away, their ears flat, tails lowered in submission. Even the strongest among them felt it. The MoonBorn had awakened. Lyra stood several yards away with Torren and Darius, watching the scene unfold with careful eyes. Torren crossed his arms, clearly amused. “Well,” he muttered, “that escalated quickly.” Lyra didn’t smile. “That kind of power isn’t supposed to show itself this early.” Darius tilted his head thoughtfully. “Perhaps the circumstances required it.” Torren glanced toward Vargan. “Or perhaps killing the last MoonBorn wasn’t the smartest thing he’s ever admitted.” Meanwhile, Aria barely heard them. Her focus was locked on Vargan.
