“You killed the last MoonBorn,” she said again, her voice low and steady.
Vargan shrugged.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
His grin widened.
“Because she tried to stop me.”
The silver light around Aria flared brighter.
“She was weak,” Vargan continued casually. “Always preaching balance. Peace. Restraint.”
He rolled his shoulders as if remembering something mildly annoying.
“She believed wolves and humans could coexist.”
Kael’s jaw tightened.
“And you didn’t?”
Vargan laughed.
“Of course not.”
His gaze swept across the battlefield.
“We are predators. Apex creatures. The strongest species this world has ever seen.”
He pointed toward the village behind Aria.
“And yet we hide in forests while fragile humans build cities and rule the land.”
His eyes burned like fire.
“That ends soon.”
Magnus and Fenrir stepped forward beside him.
Magnus cracked his massive knuckles.
Fenrir’s icy blue eyes stayed fixed on Aria with open hostility.
Vargan gestured toward her.
“But first,” he said calmly, “we deal with the MoonBorn.”
Aria didn’t move.
The power around her continued to grow.
“You won’t touch me.”
Vargan chuckled.
“Oh, I don’t need to kill you.”
His grin returned.
“I just need to break you.”
Several wolves moved forward cautiously.
Kael stepped in front of Aria instantly.
“Try it,” he growled.
Vargan tilted his head.
“Still protecting her, Kael?”
Kael’s golden eyes flashed.
“Always.”
