Shockwave

Vargan sighed. “You’ve always been sentimental. It’s your greatest weakness.” “Funny,” Kael replied, lowering into a fighting stance. “I always thought arrogance was yours.” Vargan’s smile vanished. “Attack.” The wolves surged forward. But they didn’t get far. Aria lifted one hand. The silver light exploded outward. A shockwave of moon energy blasted across the clearing like a thunderclap. The charging wolves were thrown backward as if struck by an invisible wall. Several crashed into trees. Others skidded across the dirt. Even Magnus stumbled back a step. The battlefield fell silent again. Torren let out a low whistle. “Okay,” he said. “That was impressive.” Lyra looked far less relaxed. “She’s channeling the moon directly.” Darius nodded slowly. “The legends were not exaggerating.” At the center of the clearing, Aria lowered her hand. Her silver-lit eyes locked onto Vargan. “You don’t control the wolves,” she said. “You don’t control the moon.” The power around her surged again. “And you definitely don’t control me.” Vargan’s smile slowly returned. But this time, there was something darker behind it. “Perhaps not,” he said softly. He glanced toward Magnus and Fenrir. “But this battle was never meant to end tonight.” Fenrir smirked. Magnus cracked his neck. Vargan looked back at Aria. “Consider this a preview.”
