The silver light around her fingers flickered faintly again.
Kael noticed immediately.
“You’re doing that again.”
“What?”
“Your power reacts when you’re emotional.”
Aria groaned.
“Oh great.”
Kael stepped closer again.
This time close enough that the space between them was barely a step.
“And right now you’re definitely emotional.”
Aria looked up at him.
“Maybe.”
The warmth between them surged again.
Kael hesitated for just a moment.
Then he made his move.
He reached out slowly and gently brushed a strand of hair away from her face.
Aria froze.
Not in fear.
Just… surprise.
His hand lingered for a moment before falling back to his side.
Their eyes stayed locked.
“I’ve wanted to do that since the first night we met,” he admitted quietly.
Aria raised an eyebrow.
“You mean when I tried to stab you?”
“Exactly.”
She laughed softly.
“That’s a weird moment to feel romantic.”
Kael shrugged.
“You were determined.”
Her smile lingered.
“And now?”
Kael didn’t hesitate this time.
He stepped just a little closer.
“Now I think the moon knew what it was doing.”
Aria felt the warmth in her chest flare again.
Her silver magic flickered softly around her fingers.
Neither of them noticed.
For a long moment they simply stood there, close enough to feel each other’s breath.
Then Aria smirked slightly.
“You know what?”
“What?”
“If this is your first move…”
She took a small step closer.
“…you’re going to have to try harder than that.”
Kael blinked once.
Then he laughed.
“Challenge accepted.”
Above them the evening sky darkened.
And the moon slowly began rising once more.
Watching.
