Don't Fight It

228 Words
Night settled gently over the mountain temple. The moon had fully risen now, shining down through the circular opening in the temple roof. Its pale light filled the chamber, reflecting across the smooth stone floor and glowing symbols along the walls. Aria stood once again on the center platform. Silver energy flowed around her hands more naturally now, like water responding to the pull of gravity. The magic no longer fought her control—it listened. Kael watched from a few steps away. “Try holding it longer this time,” he said. Aria nodded. She closed her eyes and focused. The silver threads formed again, drifting slowly from her fingers until they hovered in the air around her like floating ribbons of moonlight. But this time she didn’t rush. She breathed slowly. The energy remained steady. Five seconds. Ten. Twenty. Kael’s eyebrows lifted. “That’s new.” Aria opened one eye. “Don’t distract me.” He raised his hands. “I’m quiet.” She focused again. The magic moved exactly how she wanted now, forming a gentle spinning circle around her. Then she slowly pulled the light back into her palms. The glow faded. Aria exhaled. “Okay… that felt different.” Kael stepped closer. “How?” She thought for a moment. “Easier.” He nodded. “You’re getting used to the connection.”
