Chapter 5: The Mark Appears

Pain woke me up. It felt like fire was crawling under my skin. I screamed and clutched my chest. Right over my heart. Damian was in my room before I could take my next breath. "What is it?" he demanded, pulling me up. Then he froze. On my chest, glowing silver, was a mark. A crescent moon with a wolf inside it. "Impossible," Damian whispered. "A Luna's mark." "But I was rejected," I cried. "I have no mate!" Damian's eyes went black. Dangerous. "Not from me," he growled. "From the Moon Goddess herself." The door crashed open. Kael. His eyes went straight to my chest. To the glowing mark. His face went pale. Then furious. "That mark is mine," he snarled. "She's my rejected mate!" Damian stepped between us. "You gave up that right when you rejected her." "I didn't know she was a Luna!" A Luna? I was just an Omega. A slave. But the mark was burning hotter. Power rushed through me. For the first time in my life, I felt my wolf. She wasn't weak. She was huge. Black. With silver eyes. And she was pissed. "Get. Out." The words didn't sound like mine. They were deeper. Older. Both Alphas stopped. My wolf looked at Kael. Then at Damian. And chose neither. I fell to my knees as the power left me. Exhausted. Damian caught me before I hit the floor. Kael's fists were shaking. "You can't have her." Damian looked down at me in his arms. "Watch me." That night, the mark faded... but didn't disappear. And both Alphas now knew one thing. I wasn't weak anymore.
