Chapter 1: The Rejection Ceremony
The moon was full. Red.
Exactly like the night my parents were slaughtered.
I stood in the center of the pack circle, barefoot, in a torn white dress.
200 werewolves watched me. Whispered. Laughed.
Tonight was my 18th birthday. Tonight I would find my mate.
My heart pounded as Alpha Kael Blackwood stepped forward.
He was 26. Tall. Scarred. The most feared Alpha in the Northern Territory.
And he was staring right at me.
The Pack Priest raised his hands. "Luna Hayes. Step forward."
I did. My legs shook.
For 18 years I was the Omega slave. The girl with no wolf. The punching bag.
Kael stopped in front of me. His silver eyes scanned me like I was dirt.
I could smell him. Pine. Blood. Power.
My wolf stirred for the first time in my life.
"Mate," a voice whispered in my head. Mine.
My eyes widened. No.
Kael's jaw clenched. He leaned down, his hot breath on my ear.
And then he said the 3 words that shattered me.
"I reject you, Luna Hayes."
Gasps. Laughter.
"You're weak. Wolfless. A disgrace. I, Alpha Kael Blackwood, reject you as my mate."
The bond snapped in my chest like glass. Pain shot through me.
I fell to my knees as the entire pack howled.
But he didn't see the fire in my eyes.
Because one day... I will make him beg for me.
