Life Exploded
This has been one long week. Luckily, it ended earlier than expected. I swear my boss is a pain in the ass. I am really starting to question how it is even possible that she managed to climb the ladder because I can’t remember the last time she even worked. Today she set me up to meet with the creative design team from this new company we were trying to take on and by we I mean me because they are the people behind the most comfortable pants I have ever worn. Unfortunately, today was my anniversary with Michael. He is literally the best, even though my father seems skeptical of him. But to his defense, my father is a well-known lawyer. He is skeptical of everyone, probably even of my mom. Anyways, even though Michael was upset that I had to work, he completely understood I was in line for a promotion and I really needed to stand out. So imagine my delight. Moon Wave canceled. So now I’m in line at the grocery store getting Michael something to eat, and by eat I mean whipped cream to go with other delectable things that he will be eating off of me. It’s been five long but wonderful years that we have been together and I was honestly expecting him to pop the question, but lately he has been asking me questions and making sly remarks towards marriage, and to be honest, I’m getting desperate if he doesn’t ask me soon might catch this new wave and drop to me knee myself. I pulled into my driveway and called my boss Gina one more time,  since I hadn't told Michael I was coming in case she had something insane for me to do so she could pass off the credit as hers. Nothing. Straight to voicemail. Perfect. As I walk into the house, I hear a banging noise so I go to the closet and grab an old crutch as my weapon of choice. “Hello’” there was no answer, but as I started to get closer, I heard the noise again and the more I heard it the more my fears were coming into reality. The banging is coming from my bedroom along with a lot of moaning and groaning. Opening up the door, imagine my surprise when I saw my boyfriend on top of my boss.  “Ummm so Moon Wave cancelled,” I can’t believe that's all I have to say. I mean I have more, but I refuse to give them the satisfaction. “Oh and I quit,” I turned around and grabbed the most important items, trying to make a dash for them before they collected themselves. “Jessica wait, it was a mistake.” “Which time,” replies Gina as she came out of the room with the brand new sheets I had just bought  “Look, I know this isn’t ideal but I told him to tell you it was only a matter of time. However, I don’t think you really want to quit. Believe it or not, the Moon Wave is your big ticket and if word travels that you just up and quit, well I can't imagine what type of hit that would take to your reputation,” That witch her I am, catching her and my boyfriend together in my bed and this is what she going to say “Screw you.” “Wait Jess, are you going to tell your father? Please don’t I'm sorry, maybe we can work this out. It's been five years Jess, do you really want to throw that away?” My father! My father! That is all he is worried about is my dad. I can’t believe everyone was right. I was just a connection with him. I take him everywhere, from golfing with my dad, corporate parties, family functions so he can meet my uncles, who are even more successful than my dad.  “Yes,” “Jess! Jess! Don’t do this please! Jess!” I can feel it burning in my eyes and I’ll be damned if I let him see me cry. “I’ll be back for the rest of my things.”   “Wait Jess, this isn't right, please stay so we can talk it out. At least until we figure  something out. I mean where are you even going to go?” Luckily, I never gave up my condo that dad bought me in college. Usually I rebel against what dad tells me to do just because he thinks everyone has to follow his orders and it puts him in his place, but I am glad I listen to him for once. When he found out I was going to live with Mike, he told me two things. 1.Don’t let him move in with you because, apparently, squatter rights are a thing and you never know how things will end. and 2. Keep my condo until my second year of marriage and do not tell him unless I have to and only after I’m married. My friend Meri thought I was crazy  for keeping it and Liz thought I should buy another place just in case he figured it out she wasn’t a fan of Michael either. Actually, thanks to a few rental spots, it turns out my place was great for a lot of tourists. I made a lot of money. So as I drove off I can’t help but to think how this long week has turned into a five-year-long lie.
