The second chance to live

I woke up by a glass bottle being thrown into a wall. It didn't really surprise me, my step dad was always drunk and usually ended up breaking something. I looked over at my phone. 03:47 am. I had to get up in a couple of hours to head to school, I just hoped he would fall asleep by then.  I tried sleeping for another hour, but it just wouldn't happen. So I just decided to read in the few books I owned until I was sure he had fallen asleep. When I hadn't heard anything for about 30 minutes I looked at the time again. 04:51 am. Better get ready for school. I brought a pair of jeans and a hoodie and started walking to the bathroom. To get there I had to walk past the stairs that led to the living room. When I got there I looked over the railing and saw my step dad sleeping in his chair with a bottle of vodka in his hand. Classic. I opened the door to the bathroom and started the shower, I got undressed and tried not to look at my bruised and skinny body before I walked into the hot shower.  You see, I wasn't always this unhappy. I had a pretty great childhood. I grew up in an amazing family, I was an only child with two loving parents. But when I was 5 my dad got hit by a drunk driver on his way home from work. He died instantly. My mom was devastated, she quit her job and married an asshole of a man. My step dad. He wasn't that bad in the beginning, he did hit me and beat me but not as bad since my mom was around. But when I turned 11 I got home from school one day, I walked into the living room and there she was. Dead. My step dad told me she fell and hit her head, he didn't call 911 until I got home and started bawling my eyes out. That was the first time he gave me a bruise, he said people don't cry, it's selfish. He didn't arrange a funeral, the paramedics picked her up and I never saw her again. And I was left in custody of my step father.  When I got out of the shower I wrapped a towel around by body and looked at myself in the mirror. The dark long hair fell over my shoulders, it reached all the way down to my back. I had that from my mother, and I loved it. My eyes was a very dark blue color, like my dad. Something I hated was my body, you could see my ribs, and I was only around 85 pounds. I didn't eat much, we never really had good food so the only real meal I really got was lunch at school. I had bruises and cuts everywhere, mostly on my arms since it was there he usually grabbed me. But I also had some on my legs and ribs. They didn't look good, but of course no one had ever seen them, if they did I'm not sure what my step dad would do to me.  I headed out of the bathroom and grabbed my bag for school, then I tippy toed down the stairs and into the hallway. I looked over at him, he looked disgusting. He had spilled some beer I guess on his shirt, and was snoring loudly. I guess his private party went a little over the top for him.  I then head out the door and started the long walk to school. I wish I could say that was the one place I could be safe, but no. It wasn't any better, seemed like the bullies never really got better.
