The light coming in through Kaitie’s bedroom window gave the room a dim, gloomy cast. Kaitie carefully filled the fireplace before lighting the kindling. She gently blew on it until the logs began to catch fire. She smiled and stood as the flickering light filled the room, chasing away much of the gloom.
“So this is what your room looks like,” Jake said from the doorway.
Kaitie turned to see him bracing himself on the doorjamb. Jake was smiling warmly at her as she studied him. Kaitie couldn’t help herself as she smiled back at him.
