Unexpected Meeting
It was just another Friday in Kristine’s life which meant taking her son Robbie to preschool, then speech and ending the day with a ABA session at home. Her life revolved around her son and trying to do anything to help make him able to communicate. Robbie was diagnosed early with Autism and is nonverbal. He doesn’t have too many bad behaviors just doesn’t talk and elopes with the quickness. Kristine yearns for the day that she will hear her son say “I Love You Mommy” . In reality it might never happen. Robbie currently only says the word “No” and nothing else but noises is vocalized. It breaks her heart to see her son in his own world without the ability to let anyone in.
Kristine woke up from her sleep to her alarm going off like it was a nuclear warning system. “I really need to change that sound” Kristine thought as she fumbled to look for her glasses. Her glasses fell in between her dresser and the side table when she was searching at the same time a loud cry alerted from the baby monitor that her son was now awake and in need of help. Her husband was at work already so she had to get up.
Kristine knew she had to hurry before it turned into a full blown panic meltdown. She finally found her glass and bolted to Robbie’s room. Unlocking the door then scooping him up in her arms. Kristine starts to comfort her son with the same greeting she gives every day “Good Morning my beautiful boy Mommy is here now it is ok let’s start our day” . They go downstairs and she changes him and starts to make his breakfast. Robbie grabs his tablet and starts watching his favorite movie. He will replay the same scene a million times and laugh. I wish I knew what he thought was so funny.
Kristine got Robbie’s lunch ready while he ate breakfast making sure to only include his safe foods. He recently added blueberries so that was a major score. Kristen got Robbie ready for school and started their drive across town. His school is only a 8 minute drive but if you hit one stop light you hit them all. And that’s what happened that day. There was a car that seemed like it might be following them but Kristine ignored it to focus on getting to school before the bell. Robbie made it to class with one minute to spare.
On her way home Kristine felt funny not sick but just an uneasy feeling in her gut. She looked around and didn’t see the car that had been following her earlier so she felt a little bit more at ease. When her car was crossing the train tracks the gate arms came down trapping the car on the tracks. Kristine panicked and tried to gas through the gate but her car stopped working. The car was on but wouldn’t go forward or backwards. Kristine tried to get her seatbelt off and it was stuck too. She could see the freight trains lights headed directly towards her the horn blowing so loud she couldn’t hear herself think. Kristine took out her phone to record a goodbye message for her son it’s the only other thing she could think of doing when at the last minute her driver door flew off the side of the car and a strong set of arms freed her from the car.
The man smelt incredible and Kristine didn’t know if it was just because he saved her and she now had a hero complex but he was the most gorgeous man she ever seen. He had the body of a Greek god and was able to carry her without a struggle. In fact he had not let go of her since he saved her. The man was old enough to start having a streak of gray in his hair. Not to where it makes him look old but more like sexy sophisticated and a layer of mystery surrounding him.
Kristine looks up at her savior when their eyes meet it makes her heart stop and butterflies started in her belly. “Why am I feeling like this is it because I almost died? I gotta get it together, thank this stranger then figure out how I’m getting a new car” Kristine thought to herself. His eyes were pure black when she looked into them and that is something she had never seen before.
Just then the stranger finally spoke “ Little mate I have searched far and wide for many years for you. And to find you just to have you almost die in front of me set off my wolf I’m sorry”. His eyes quickly changed color to a gorgeous light green and showed a mix of emotions. She could see he was had a mix of sadness, pain and also what might be hope. Kristine couldn’t make out what he meant by little mate and wolf but she knew that this man was not putting her down.
He carried her to his car and placed her gently in the backseat as he began to look over her body for any injuries. “I’m so glad you were not hurt. I don’t know what I would have done to finally find you to lose you the same day. My name is Darius Underwood and you are never leaving my side”.
