A Place She Called Home
Warmth. The heat from the sunlight showered the little girl's face, forcing her to open her eyes. Although reluctant, she began to stretch her limbs and observe her surroundings. A small comfy cottage made out of oak, felt just like home. Freshly cooked omelette's scent was lingering throughout the the living room.          There she is. The calm  and endearing woman she called mother. She gave a limping run towards her, and a surprise hug from behind. The woman was startled, but soon laugh it off and ruffled the girl's hair.         "Hey, did you overslept again? You slept like a log, I don't have the heart to wake you up. Breakfast will be ready soon, go play with your brother outside while I'm preparing, alright?" she exclaimed.         The girl instead pulled a stool from the dining room into the kitchen to have a better sight on her mother's task. She eagerly climbed up on it, watching every single step the mother took, observing and memorizing at the same time. The mother peeked at the girl, gave off a slight chuckle, then handed her a freshly bought pair of eggs.         "Can you c***k them open for me, sweetie? Put them in the bowl once you've done."         The girl tried her best not to include any shells in them. She did alright. At least better than what her mother had expected.         "Thank you, kiddo. You're really helped me a lot. Here, wipe your hands," she handed her a small towel. At least she knew she had to clean them afterwards. The mother mixed the eggs with spices, before putting them inside a coal-powered stove. "That should do for mine, I suppose. I might have miscalculated when makin these," said the mother as she giggled.         "You know Asa," the girl's attention switched from staring at the cooking utensils into her mother's face, "you really reminded me of your father. The way you always wake up late, how you always help me in the kitchen, the way you speak..." she paused. The atmosphere became colder than it's supposed to. The girl read the mother's expression, and knew that something was off. She softly pulled her mother's arm, bringing her back to her senses.         She quickly changed her expression as soon as she found out the girl noticed it, "Ah, but your father was still in the army right? Yeah, I remember now! He must still be in Midlands, fighting for our kingdom's freedom. Do you have dreams like that too, Asa? I mean, you don't have to fight in the military. But at least saving humanity as a whole, have you?"         The girl never really thought about that. SHe shook her head.         The mother replied with a smile, then said, "Come now, have some faith in yourself. The Observer's always watching where you go, remember? They won't let you fall, so you have to keep moving on until your dreams come true."          "They won't give you a burden you yourself can't even carry. Well, if they do, you can always come to me and your brother. We'll help you as we can, or if you just needed someone to tell about your problems to. We're family after all." The stove got warmer as the mother added more coal and dried wooden sticks.         "Go. Your brother's waiting."        The mother was smiling, yet something felt off. The one that was painted in her face didn't resemble relief or joy. Either way, she knew things the girl didn't. The expression was brief however, as she shrugged it off and kept cooking. The girl may or may not have took a quick glance and notice her indescribable emotion, but she didn't stop either way.         "Hey, you're late!" the boy shouted from afar, with a wooden sword in his hand.         "Mom's still making breakfast, huh? Gee, she'd never let us help her on the kitchen. I wanted to do something good for her once in awhile," the boy exclaimed. The girl gave him a doubtful look, in which he replied with, "Hey, I only burned our kitchen once! I'm still learning y'know!"          The girl gave a faint smile, but then stared at him with a confused and unjust expression.         "Hm? W-what is it?"         "Did you cut your hair recently? Has it always been this short?"         The wind blows stronger as soon as she finishes her sentence.                   The boy, still confused, replied, "What're you talking about? I never it off since winter."         "Nevermind. Are you still on board about being a swordsman?"         "Hell yeah, I do!" the boy swings the wooden sword around, cutting air, "I'll never give up on my dreams! I'm gonna be a hero, a hero that save the entire countr- no,the entire world! WHen the next demon lord re-awaken, I'll be there fighting for us."         The boy's eyes were glimmering with passion, hopes and dreams. The girl, however, didn't share the same view.         "Hey, have you heard the news from the palace? They said a hero had come from another world. He posesses all the combat elements, infinite powers, and superior sword skills. Almost as if he was invincible! Everyone adores him, and after thousands of trainings I can grow up  to be like him!."         The girl gave an even more concerned look. The boy took a notice and gave an assurance, " Asa, I'm strong and I'll be even stronger from now on, I can already feel it was my destiny to be a warrior. The only thing I need is power and more training."         "And when I've become a hero, people will stop calling us an outsider. Those who look down on us will accept us someone to respect. We don't have to be isolated anymore."         "Akio, you'll die."         The boy stopped his swinging.
