The night air was bitingly cold.
After waiting in line for more than half an hour, Evelyn returned with the cakes.
Fiona was confessing to a slightly tipsy Aaron.
"Aaron, we missed our chance five years ago. This time, I came back for you..."
Aaron kissed her before she could finish.
His eyes were tinged with red.
"Promise me you won't leave me again. Promise me."
Fiona saw Evelyn returning over Aaron's shoulder. She deliberately stepped aside.
"But what about Evelyn?"
"Her? Just a secretary."
"Your stand-in."
Fiona provocatively leaned in closer.
Aaron went completely wild, pressing Fiona against the corner with a wild desire, burying his face in her neck.
Every movement of his hands had been repeated on her countless times. So familiar, yet so strange.
The air around seemed to carry blades, and Evelyn could only hunch her back to withstand the piercing pain deep in her heart.
She stumbled, accidentally stepping on a nearby flower pot.
She fled.
But was caught by Aaron at the corner.
The man's eyes showed obvious panic as he pulled Evelyn into his arms.
"I was just drunk. I thought it was you."
Evelyn looked at the face she had been obsessed with for five years, her eyes filled with numbness from the pain.
Only after biting her lip until it bled did she ask.
"Aaron, what exactly am I to you?"
Aaron didn't answer.
Not far away, Fiona's voice came over.
"Aaron, who is it?"
His eyes dodged, answering nervously.
"No, just a stray cat."
He kissed her reassuringly.
"Be good, let the driver take you home first. I'll be back soon."
Watching their departing figures, Evelyn turned around.
It was time to leave.
She returned the girlfriend position to its rightful owner.
Unexpectedly, after only a few steps, a shadow suddenly leaped out from the side.
Evelyn didn't even have time to call for help before she was thrown into the villa's storage room.
The door slammed shut with a lock.
A man's vicious voice.
"b***h, trying to steal Ms. Jones's man, you're not ready for that."
Locked in the pitch-black storage room, Evelyn tried to free herself. Nothing worked.
Suddenly, there was a commotion outside, and someone shouted.
"Oh no, it's on fire."
Thick smoke began to seep through the door cracks, quickly filling the entire storage room.
Aaron's voice came from outside the door.
"Fiona, hurry, I'll take you out."
Evelyn pounded on the door, shouting hoarsely. "Aaron, save me."
But he only focused on Fiona, unable to hear her cries.
The fire slowly crept into the storage room, and the entire villa was consumed by flames.
Evelyn stood there in despair.
She saw the group of people who had escaped, standing disheveled at the doorway.
"Aaron, where's your secretary? I don't see her."
"She should have gone home, right?"
However, Fiona rushed back inside.
"No, I have to go in and check. What if Evelyn is still there?"
Aaron grabbed her tightly.
"Are you crazy? If something happens to you, what am I supposed to do?"
A massive concrete block fell from the beam.
Aaron shouted and threw himself over Fiona to shield her, the block landing heavily on his back.
"Aaron, Fiona. Someone call an ambulance! Get them to the hospital."
This scene brought a bitter laugh to Evelyn.
He was willing to risk his life for her once more.
She climbed into the nearby attic, closed her eyes, and jumped...
