Chapter 11: The Lycan coupon

IAN'S POV "Liam why? Why?"I mumbled as I quickly jolted from sleep, grabbing my neck. "Another nightmare" I sighed waking up from sleep. My body was already covered in sweat. The betrayal from my pack was always hunting me in my dream. *** As a young alpha, I indeed had made a lot of mistakes running my pack. But the punishment I got was rather too harsh "Ian?" He called, interrupting my quiet time, barging in with the rest of the pack "Yes brother? " I answered still focusing my attention on the gentle movement of the river "I've talked to the pack and they want me to be their new alpha" he said in a void tone that held no emotion. I was shocked to hear such statement from my young cousin, the only blood relative I had left. "Excuse me, I didn't hear you " I said in pretense. "The pack has chosen me to be the new alpha " he repeated with much valor in his tone. "I believe you know the rules on how to overthrow an alpha? I asked finally turning towards their direction "Yes, I'll have to beat you in a duel" he said, slowly ejecting his claws that were as strong as steel and I caught the message. His bones made crackling sounds as he shifted into his 7ft lycan form. His eyes were like the colors of a blue flame. I shifted too, into a monstrous 8 ft Lycan. My eyes were red because I was filled with rage. And with the speed of lightening, he attacked me. He leaped towards me, seeking to bite my neck, but I shielded my self with my left arm and with the right, I punched him heavily on the jaw, twice, releasing my left arm from the grip of his canine. He didn't take my counter attack lightly, as he jabbed my sides with his claws furiously, spilling my blood on the soil. He tried to wrestle me to the ground. He was overpowering me so I clubbed my fists and descended them heavily on his bare back. I landed another hard blow on his head, smashing his face on the earth. He sprung up with agility and rushed towards me but I took advantage of his momentum as I carried him off his feet, and landed him face first on the floor with a smack down. I bent towards him to lift him from the ground for another attack, but he came with his, first. He spur soil directly into my eyes. As I staggered backwards rubbing my eyes with the back of my palms, trying to get rid of the sand in it, Liam jabbed his claws directly to my throat lifting me from the ground. I choked as I felt his sharp claws pierce into my throat. "Liam why? Why?" I stuttered as the blood gushing from my mouth and throat were choking me The look in his eye was obvious that he didn't care finishing me off. He didn't reply me as he lifted me higher and threw me into the river and that was how I found myself in the dark woods. It was a miracle that I managed to survive the encounter, thanks to my healing factor. *** "You're up?" Reem said as she approached my tent with food "Thank you" I said in a hush collecting it from her gently. Everywhere was silent for a few seconds before she broke it. "Thank you once again" she said with a smile, taking me aback to the first time she said that to me. ** Out of obligation I had vehemently decided to tag along with them to protect her (Reem) even after we engaged in a war words: and they had spilled on how they didn't trust me nor my breed: and of how I was just a super powered dog. As an alpha, it was my obligation to protect my kind. There was no way I was going to leave her with those confused set of people, especially with the wizard boy around. Judging from our encounter earlier, it was obvious he had not mastered his power and there's nothing more dangerous than a wizard who doesn't understand his power. ** "Don't thank me, I did my duty" I said calmly and she smiled "Actually, I don't even know how I feel right now, being with my kind" she said smiling "We're not the same (I said shattering her excitement) I come from a breed much superior to yours" I said watching her as her bright smile faded. Everywhere was silent again. "Can I ask you a favor ? (She asked with begging eyes) Can you teach me how to harness my werewolf power ?" She pleaded "We'll talk about that later" I said excusing myself as I left the tent. ANUBIS'S POV* "Hmmmm...." moallim sighed pondering over what I told him. I had summoned him from the tele-device and briefed him on everything we had encountered since we came into the dark woods. "The outburst of energy you felt, is called 'ZEAL' (he began) The zeal is a very rare offensive magic dormant in some wizards. Throughout our study, we haven't really figured out how it comes or why. All we know is that you must be very unique for you to posses a zeal. But I must warn you, the zeal can be dangerous. If you don't master how to control it effectively, it might even hurt you. It's just like chasing a dog with fire. Holding the fire doesn't mean you're invincible to it (he stressed) For now, I'd advice you not to depend on it if you haven't learnt to control or summon it. The zeal might not come to you, even when you think you need it the most" he concluded. "Ok. (I replied) And the boy?" I asked referring to Ian "The Lycan? " moallim asked "Yes. Can we trust him? " "Hmmmm...(he sighed) Lycans and werewolves, tho creatures of the dark, can be cooperative and peaceful, WHEN they're not offended. It's understandable if he feels attached to the hybrid. What I'm worried about now is that he's a rogue and even an alpha. Nobody knows if he's saying the truth about his pack. I'll only advise you to be careful around him (he said and I nodded in affirmation) One more thing (he spoke out, as if he forgot something) If he's telling the truth about the illusions and about goblins & witches working together, I'd suggest you master your magic or hopefully, perfect your zeal. It might come in handy." He said before he vanished. Moallim Abubakar** Council of wizards ** "How is this possible? " one of the wizards spoke as I reported to them that Anubis had an active zeal. "It's impossible, but he's too young " another wizard exclaimed in uttermost disbelief "The boy is indeed very unique " I said still shocked myself "But he can turn out to be dangerous too. What if he turns out to be like his ancestor?(The chief spoke and everywhere was silent) I think we should've expelled him, and as the law demands of expelled students, finish him off from behind. " he added and everyone just murmured. "My good friend, that'd would be a very harsh decision (I interrupted, breaking the silence) Let's just watch how this turns out. "
