Chapter 12: The Centaur

ANUBIS It had been 2 days after we discovered the Lycan. We had covered an unimaginable distance, thanks to him. But I still couldn't trust him even if everyone had come to accept him. As much as I hate to admit, he was truly an ace card and both Reem and I had ganered enough knowledge from him. For Reem, it was him taking her hunting, showing her the ways of the wild and teaching her to balance her werewolf, amongst so many others. For me, it was him giving me the responsibility of creating a barrier spell anytime we camped, to protect us from the evil creatures in the dark; Like the giant centipedes that always disturbed our sleep by trying to break through the barrier. Sometimes I'd often wonder where it went in the day. Another one would be him telling me to create sunlight to simply revert a troll that ones tried to attack us two nights ago to stone. But with him around, a lot of strange things (or say a strange thing) had happened (although he took care of it) Last night we were attacked by a bewitched centaur (which we finally figured out thanks to moallim) *LAST NIGHT * After we were done with dinner, I had gone to take a leak, before I would then create the barrier (which was some kind of powerful bubble dome). That was when I sighted the Centaur "Hey guys! Look...a centaur " I said excitedly "I don't think that's something to be excited about" Margaret said as they all took a few steps backwards (and kept moving backwards) as if they saw something other than what I was seeing. "C'mon, these guys are civilized (I said fixing my clothes after the leak) They're literally harmless.. " I had made to say before the centaur threw a spear at me, targeted at my heart. Just then everything went into slow motion and timed seemed to pause as Ian had leaped towards me, pushing me to the ground. He took the fall for me as the spear pierced through his right shoulder. This seemed to aggravate him, as he immediately shifted into a beast (lycan) who's skin were as black as the night itself, with sharp claws, red glaring eyes and a canine that could probably cut through any metal. And with a loud growl, he pulled out the spear from his shoulder. As if they heard a bell, they both charged towards each other with full speed. With Ian running on all fours and the centaur wielding a heavy big sword, they both ran into each other with full force, causing a disastrous effect for both parties. More on Ian's side actually, as the centaur had slashed through his upper abdomen. This seemed to aggravate Ian the more as he let out a very loud roar, (the type of roar that could make even the bravest man cower in fear) but the centaur who's eyes were as empty as darkness itself, didn't shiver. (Weird!!!) Ian attacked again, targeting the legs of the centaur, but was sent flying away by a kick from the powerful hind limbs of the centaur and that was when Ian disappeared. "Great!" I muttered as the centaur charged towards us with his sword "Gather around everyone " I ordered as I quickly built a barrier just in time, as the centaur collided with the walls of the bubble dome. Two dwarves who were unlucky and weren't quick enough to enter the dome were stamped to death by the centaur. All of a sudden, Ian appeared from nowhere, jumping down from the trees directly towards the centaur. The centaur tried shaking him off his back as Ian scratched his back, leaving deep wounds. The centaur tried using his sword but ended up hurting himself. The commotion tho, caused Ian to fall off. The centaur attacked with the hind kickback again, but Ian was smart and shielded himself by clubbing his arms to receive the kick. Since the attack from the centaur was ineffective, Ian attacked the centaur with a leg sweep, sweeping it(the centaur) off its feet. As the centaur was struggling to get up, Ian went with the finishing blow as he bit the centaur by the neck, snapped it and ripped it off. **Present day* "I still don't understand how you guys are cool with accepting a total stranger" I complained as I helped Hansel and Gretel pack up their tent. Reem and Ian had gone hunting. "We never said we've let our guards down (Hansel replied) I don't even see any reason why we should still distrust him. (He continued) He has been of great help to us since we found him. Besides I think you're just overreacting because you're jealous of him being close to Reem (he said raising an eyebrow to me and I gasped in disapproval) If you didn't notice, you're making it obvious " he added "No that's not true. I trust Reem, so I'm not jealous. It's him that I don't trust, he might he dangerous. That's why I'm being protective " I protested "Over protective " Hansel corrected "You know I wouldn't blame Reem if she falls for him. (Gretel interrupted) I mean they're both werewolves ..." "Ian is Lycan " I corrected interrupting Gretel "Whatever...(she shrugged, shutting me off) He's cute and hot. I mean have you seen his perfect biceps and abs? (She asked rhetorically) He's brave, he's smart, he's fearless, he's strong... I mean I could go on and on, mentioning his qualities. (She said in a girly manner) All I'm saying is that he's perfect and I don't think there's anything that might make Reem not fall for him" she concluded "Gretel he is just an over powered dog" I said in frustration and she just scoffed "Incase you didn't notice, even in his human form, he possess the strength like that of ten men put together" Gretel said raising an eyebrow. "Speak of the devil..." I said as I saw them (Ian and Reem) coming back with a huge game. "Ok guys! (Ian called out, calling us all together) After the meal, we'll get going (he began) And truthfully, things aren't going to be easy because the next creature we'll be facing is a minotaur..." he said regretfully "And how do you know that?" I objected, interrupting him "I've been in the dark woods for two years now, and obviously I've tried to escape, that's how I know(he began) But each time I've tried to escape, the minotaur has proved to be a major obstacle. (he continued) I'm afraid even if I want to take on him, I'd need a little help" he concluded almost like dismissing us. "Hmmm...could it be he's just using us to escape from here?" I thought inaudibly as we dispersed. **CONVERSATION BETWEEN ANUBIS & MOALLIM ABUBAKAR Moallim was silent for a while as I briefed him about the centaur incident last night. "I think there's a witch here (he began) I think she's trying to send you a message!
