Chapter 2

She bit her lips, trying to think of something. She couldn't let Kyle find out about it. “Uhm… I–” His eyebrows furrowed even more, he could tell she was hiding something. He took his slender fingers off her chin and moved a few inches back. “Well… not like I care, Just sign the f*****g papers and get off my life!” he snarled, throwing the divorce papers at her. “What?!” Elena shot back, her hands clenched into a fist. His gaze was unwavering, “I want a f*****g divorce, Elena!” He barked, sending shivers down her spine. “Kyle, you can't be serious, I–I'm not signing those papers!” She spat, her face filled with fear. “No one asked for your daft opinion, Elena! Just sign them before dawn.” He said condescendingly. “But Kyle, I'm–” Before she could finish, He slammed the door behind him. ‘Pregnant.’ She said inwardly. Elena placed her hand on her stomach, she stared pensively at the door and tears drooled down her eyes. Tides of thoughts washed through her as she realised how unfortunate her marriage had been. Loving Kyle was a losing game… However, she had his child now, and if he found out about it, he probably could change his mind, and love her. She took a deep breath and clenched her dress… ‘It was time to tell Kyle about his baby.’ It wasn't the time to give up now, after enduring two good years? She would have continued her fashion career and owned a brand herself. But then, he proposed, only to ruin her life. So what was the point of marrying her if he was going to treat her this way? Her mind was resolute, and all she wanted was to save her marriage, she picked the divorce papers, standing tall and unyielding. With firm steps and gaze, she wiped her tears and walked out of the room. Ignoring the risks she had feared, she pressed forward, hoping he would be convinced after her revelation. Her large confident strides to the study were short-lived by Kyle's voice coming from one of the rooms she passed. Her eyebrows furrowed upon hearing his voice… she went back to confirm, and it was his, but from the guest room. She leaned into the door, slowly pressing her eyes hard against it. She tried to hear their muffled voices, gleaning some hint as to what was being discussed. Sophia: I hate to admit but I think you should have stated the consequences to her if she failed to sign the papers. There was a brief moment of silence… Kyle: Pfft! — I'll make her life a living hell if she doesn't. Elena must pay for what her par– WHOOSH! The sound of a barely shut door swinging open, accompanied by Elena almost stumbling, however, gaining balance from a table beside her. She got her composure but her eyes widened as she saw Sophia seductively sitting on his lap. But what was more surprising was what he said. If she had heard correctly, he wanted to make her life a living hell, but for a reason she wasn't aware of. “Looks like someone was eavesdropping,” Sophia sneered, giving off a curt smirk. Kyle looked impassive, his thin lips, set in a firm line, no one could tell what he was thinking. He didn't mind if she eavesdropped in their conversation. He knew that whatever she heard would eventually hasten their divorce if nothing else. He placed his wine glass on the table after a short sip, and he glared at her, expectantly. “Cat got your tongue?” It was at that point it dawned on Elena that there was no chance of her saving her marriage. Similarly, her unborn child had no future in that home, even if she had told him or not. It was time for her to let go, it was an opportunity to be free from her misery. She had nothing to regret. Her jaw set in a firm line and her chin held high, she straightened out the rumpled divorce papers, picked a pen and signed it. “Here, you can have them!” She scoffed. Kyle's face remained impassive, he knew she had no other options left than to sign, however, a glint of surprise flashed across Sophia's eyes. “That was quick, hope you won't regret it, honey?” She smiled at Elena, malevolently. Elena kept staring at Kyle, hoping to see him flinch, trying to see if he cared even for a second. But all she saw was an empty soul, whose heart was set on vengeance. “Well then… Get out!” Kyle roared, slamming his hands hard on the desk. She got frightened and quickly fled the room. She didn't want to spend another second in his mansion, it was an opening for her. She got her luggage box set and packed her clothes and jewellery. They were all worn out and old, she wasn't even allowed to get anything for herself. And all she had was what she brought from her family's house, nothing much, nothing less. She tried to avoid as many maids on her way out, even if she could still hear their murmurs as she walked out. When she got out of the estate, she stared at the mansion, standing great from afar and waved it goodbye. It was going to be the last time she saw it. She boarded a cab and left for her family's mansion. It wasn't as luxurious as Kyle's but it indeed was gracious. When Elena arrived at the gate, the security guard stopped her at the entrance. Elena was surprised that she couldn't get into her own family's house, so she paced around for a while before noticing a motherly figure approaching. “Mom! What's going on?” her face etched with concern. “Why wasn't I allowed to get in? I've been here for over 15 minutes.” Elena said intently. Mrs Grant sized her up and noticed the luggage box she carried and her worn-out dress. “Who the hell are you and what are you doing on my property?” She asked curtly. “What?!” She gasped. “Get off my property before I call the police!” Mrs Grant snarled, getting her phone out of her pocket. “Mom it's me, El, your princess?” Elena voiced, stupefied by her mom's reaction. “Guards, get this thing off my property!”
