Blackwood's Corporation.
11:51 AM
Kyle sat in his office chair, making some final touches to his infrastructural project on his MacBook Pro.
It was quite a peaceful morning for him, acknowledging the fact that his annoying wife had finally gone out of his life.
He heaved a sigh of relief.
No more unimportant calls and text messages.
However, earlier that morning, he received several texts from his mother about Elena, she was infuriated when she heard about the divorce.
‘Who the hell does she think she is, trying to interfere with my personal life?’ he scowled, slamming his fists hard on the desk.
She even stopped by his office building, but he had ordered his guards to prevent her from coming in until further notice.
In contrast, she never cared about Elena when he maltreated her during their marriage, yet she's against our divorce, he thought inwardly.
“Pfft!”
Last night before the divorce, he purposely left the door unlocked, knowing fully well that Elena would search for him and eventually eavesdrop on his conversation with Sophia.
And thus, he was glad she did, he knew it would give her more reasons to leave.
“Perfect,” he exclaimed, delighted.
He had finally completed his infrastructure project.
Similarly, when she got to her family's mansion that night, Kyle threatened her parents that he would kill Elena if they left her in.
Mrs Grant had to think of something to get rid of Elena for her safety.
He knew she had no one to go to and it was a sure way to make them regret what they did to him, he always wanted something worse than death for her.
He didn't care where she slept or if she was abused by some lustful men, he just wanted to torture her.
He heard a knock on the door, and his assistant, Isaac Walker, came in, sweat bulbs rolling down his face.
“Sir, I just got info regarding y–your…” Isaac's voice trembled, he couldn't say it.
Kyle's eyebrows furrowed, “Well, aren't you going to say something?” his eyes still fixated on the screen.
“It's about Valerie.” He stuttered, sounds of his heartbeat could be heard across the room.
Kyle froze on the spot, holding his coffee mug firmly, Isaac could feel the anger emanating from him.
He shut the laptop and stared at Isaac like he could rip him apart.
“I thought I warned you not to say her name?” Kyle snarled.
“I–I know sir, but Grant's family weren't behind her death.”
“I recently discovered some evidence about the truth.” He said, handing over some documents and tapes over to him.
“Give me those!” He yanked it out of his hands.
His eyes widened as he went through the pictures and security footage given to him by Isaac.
He felt different waves of emotions wash right through him at that point. He even tried getting up from his seat, being overwhelmed by the revelation.
But his legs were too shaky to lift him and he fell right back to his seat, causing his coffee mug to fall off and shatter.
“Sir!!!” Isaac called out, afraid that he might get hurt.
“It can't be!” Kyle muttered.
The Blackwood and Grant family have had a mutual relationship for many years, but it all came crashing down when his sister, Valerie, got involved in a contrived car accident.
It was a devastating period for both families, but unfortunately, all hands and evidence pointed at the Grant's family.
He was infuriated when he discovered their secret and so he wanted to do to them what they did to him.
And Elena turned out to be the scapegoat.
He wanted something far worse than death itself, and so he offered to marry her.
His intentions were made clear to her parents but not to her, so she could feel every bit of pain when his torture and betrayal came.
And now, this… if these claims were true then he had made a grave mistake.
He stared at his sweaty, shaky hands, and then a cold wave of shock struck him hard.
He remembered his abusive words and actions to Elena, and all the torture she innocently passed through.
He imagined how heartbroken she must have gotten bringing his lover back home that night.
He couldn't believe the lengths he had taken just for revenge.
He didn't even wait to verify the info about Valerie's death, before inflicting pain on the Grant's. But instead, he chose to point fingers and accusations.
Being disoriented, he picked up his phone, his hands trembling, and he tried to call Elena.
“f**k! I don't even have her contact saved!” He said, after scrolling through his contact list tirelessly.
Being displeased, he flung his phone over to his desk
“Do you have my wife's contact saved?” He asked the frightened Isaac who offered him his phone instantly.
“Dammit! It's not going through to her… go get any info about her current location, I need to see my wife now!” He demanded.
Shortly after pacing around his office, a call came in, and Kyle quickly rushed to his desk and got his phone, he noticed that it was from an unknown caller ID.
“This could be her!” He rejoiced, before taking the call.
“Babe! I've been waiting for you for about 15 minutes now.”
Oh s**t, it was Sophia, he took a glance at his wristwatch. It was 12:17 PM.
They were supposed to go out together, but then, he got carried away by Isaac and his unexpected discoveries.
“Hello!!!” Sophia shouted after a brief moment of silence on his end.
“What happened to your phone?” He questioned, pinching his nose bridge.
“It died on me babe, I used a stranger's phone to call you.”
“Sigh!”
“I'm calling off the outing, I have a lot on my desk!” He responded.
“But babe! You promised–”
Kyle saw his assistant walk in and carelessly dropped his phone on his desk, ignoring what she had to say.
“Sir!” He mumbled.
“So, where is she?” He growled.
“From the recent data I got, she boarded a flight to California this morning.” He said.
“Yeah, go on?”
Isaac adjusted his tie, feeling quite uneasy before he continued.
“However, from the current news headline, that same plane was hijacked and it crashed around the outskirts of the city.”
“What?!” Kyle stood up abruptly, clenching tightly onto his chest.
