Barney’s Christmas Kitchen
A few light clouds had come in to obscure the stars and a gentle, soothing snow was falling. Comfort Cottage was at the end of a row of similar cottages, each set in their own grounds, but beyond it the road headed off into the trees, winding uphill. Ellie had said that there were no roads into or out of the village, so Maggie’s curiosity as to where the road went was immediately aroused. With no streetlights that way, it would have to wait until morning.
The cluster of buildings around Hollydell’s village square still glittered with lights even at this late hour. As Maggie walked downhill, she spotted Barney’s Christmas Kitchen, a discreet sign above the door of a log cabin. The sounds of merriment drifted from inside the frosted windows.
