Rejected

. LILA’s POV My step mother immediately stood up from where she was staring at me with contempt. “What’s wrong with you?.” She yelled angrily. “Are you handicapped?.” Damian is going to be mated to Nadia. That is what’s wrong with me. I looked up to catch Damian’s gaze but he already looked away. “Apologize this instant!!.” My step mother yelled again, her voice sharp and demanding snapping me out of my thoughts. “I apologize.” My eyes glisten with tears as I stammer out a weak apology. “I apologize for the inconvenience.” I say, my voice barely audible over my stepmother's harsh tone as I bow a little to the head alpha. “You can leave.” My father finally spoke up not sparing me a glance. I didn’t wait twice to be told. I turn fleeing from the scene. I didn’t know where I was going. But I just wanted to be far away from Damian and my family. As I walked away, I felt so heavy inside. Tears start to come, but I try to stop them. Eventually, I couldn’t hold them back anymore. I was already at the family garden, far away from them so I sat down on the pavement and decided to cry. What was I thinking? So hopeful that the next alpha of our pack was going to choose me? Obviously Nadia was better than me. As I sit on the pavement, wiping away my tears, a sudden chill runs down my spine, and instinctively, my senses sharpen, and I catch a faint scent on the air. I wipe my tears away with the back of my hand, feeling their wetness against my skin. Sniffling, I try to compose myself before slowly turning around. I scoff seeing Damian Hendrix standing before me not even looking the least remorseful. "I'm your mate," I manage to whisper, my voice trembling with disbelief. "You must be mistaken," he says coldly, his rejection cutting deep. “Mistaken?.” I gape at his audacity. “If you mistaken then why didn’t you just reject me yesterday? Instead you blew up my hope saying you are glad I’m your mate.” “I was glad because my mate happened to be Sheriff Shepherd’s daughter.” “And now?”. I didn’t even want to hear what he would say because they all said the same thing. And it was going to hurt. “You are his first daughter yet you are like a maid in this house. How do I tell my father that you are my mate? I’m the next head alpha and you think I’ll have a Luna who’s weak and not worth anything?." The truth hits me like a ton of bricks—I'm not worthy in his eyes, just a lowly illegitimate existence. “The moon goddess made me your mate. I didn’t put myself in this position.” I say reminding him. “Of all people, why you?.” His words were like daggers, piercing through the depths of my soul, shredding my heart into pieces. He ran his fingers through his messy sexy looking hair cursing under his breath a couple of times. Disappointment, anger and disbelief radiated from his aura. “You don’t want me then?”. I asked, my voice breaking. Was I that undesirable and pathetic for him to show this level of contempt for having me as his mate? “Isn’t it obvious? Do I have to spell it out for you? I don’t want you. I need a strong Luna by my side and look at the way your own family treats you then look at the way your sister is being treated.” That didn’t have to sting but it did. “Last night, I told my dad I had found my mate and she was Alpha Shepherd’s daughter, he immediately assumed it was Nadia.” Damian shook his head. “I can’t love a weak, regular looking she-wolf like you. You can’t even shift. Don’t you understand? This mating is a mistake.” The moon goddess never makes a mistake so why does it feel like she did in this one? Damian saying all these things at me makes it clear enough. “But the moon goddess never—.” “I can’t be mated to you. It’s shameful, you’ll only embarrass me. I, Alpha Damien —.” He was about to reject me. “No, no, no.” I immediately began shaking my head negatively. “You can’t, Damien, please.” I fell to my knees attempting to beg him. He shifted backwards. ““I, Alpha Damien, reject you, Lila Shepherd as my mate.” He said coldly then turned his back walking away. I sat back down on the floor realizing what had just happened. I wasn’t just an unmated omega. I was a rejected one. Damian Hendrix rejected me for my sister. Water droplets fell on the floor and I looked up to see if rain was falling but I laughed at myself knowing it was me crying. I could feel my bond with Damien becoming weak and it tugged at my heart. I was still holding on. Looking across to see him leaving with his father without a glance at me told me everything I needed to know. “I, Lila Shepherd, accept your rejection, Damian Hendrix.” I say softly and the bond wilted away like it wasn’t there in the first place. At least he didn’t wait days until he could reject me, it would be more painful to let go. “Oh look at my poor big sister, sitting there looking all pitiful.” Nadia. I stood up from where I was removing dust from my clothes. I wasn’t going to let her talk me into sadness. “You look pathetic.” I ignored her walking past her heading to my room. Today haven’t been the best day like I assumed it would be. “Is that how you act towards your future Luna?.” She yelled reaching out to drag me back. I pushed her hands away from my body. “You are not my Luna.” “But I’ll be when I become mates with your Damien.” She said, her eyes twinkling. I stepped backwards. “You knew?.” “You both are so obvious.” She scoffed. “Him trying to stare at everywhere except you and your pitiful self desperately hoping that he would look at you.” “If you knew then why didn’t you tell father that—.” “Tell father that what? ‘Oh father, I’m sorry I can’t mate with our pack’s future heir, he’s for Lila’.” She mocked me before bursting out into full laughter. I gritted my teeth in annoyance. “But you know it’s true.” “Was true. He rejected you, didn’t he?.” And I acted without thinking. "Ow! Let go of me, you pathetic imbecile!". I drag her hair backwards making sure to cost her pain. After all it would never measure up to what she has done to me all my life. "Enough! What's going on here? Lila, let her go this instant!" I immediately let go of Nadia hearing my step mother, Alia’s voice. Then, suddenly, a sharp pain seared across my cheek. Shock reverberated through me as my step-mother's hand collided with my face in a harsh slap. My eyes widened in disbelief, stinging tears welling up as I recoiled, realizing what she had done. “You are getting out of hand. You act like you have no home training.” She scolded me while going over to pet Nadia. “You think I’ll forgot that stupid stunt you pulled back in there in front of the pack alpha?.” Not wanting to argue and get into more trouble, I ratted out an insincere apology. “Do you think an apology would revert what you did in there?.” I didn’t have an answer to that. She made a move towards me again but paused bringing her hand back down. “Violence doesn’t solve anything, Alia.” My father stepped into the conversation calming my step mother down before turning to me. “Apologize to your sister for ruining her introduction with her mate.” “Yes father.” I replied without questioning him bowing to Nadia to a little bit. “I apologize for any inconvenience.” “Daddy this isn’t enough.” Nadia whined to him. “What if she tries to ruin my mating ceremony next?.” My eyebrows twitched in annoyance. What is she trying to insinuate? “She’s jealous because I’m getting mated before her and it’s going to be more terrible with her in the house while we are doing preparations for it.” What is this little brat saying? “I don’t care about your mating ceremony.” I spat out. It was such a hard thing to say. “Lila is getting old anyways and it would be a shame for your junior to get mated and you’re in the house for several years living as an unmated omega.” My step mother added. They were both saying words that didn’t matter. “Mating proposals are already in plans for Lila.” My father said while walking away. What? “What? You are giving me out?.” I asked in disbelief speaking out of turn as I hurried to match in pace. Meanwhile Nadia scoffed. “Someone wants her enough to make a proposal?.” My father stopped turning around to face me. “The commander of the king’s army.” The commander of what? Who’s that? “Arden Alaric. His last bride ran away few days ago and the king is in search for another one for his favorite soldier. I’ve put in your name and you’ll be off to them days from now.” My father said before walking away again with my step mother in tow. Nadia let out a huge cackle. “You are being sent off to Arden Alaric. That’s a shame.” “Who’s Arden Alaric?.” “Only the most unwanted alpha in the history of alphas. I think he fits you, two rejected being together.” She said giggling strutting away. My father is really giving me out to this commander without asking for my opinion? I really am worthless like Damien said. . . TBC
