If Only You Knew

    BEEEEEEP! BEEEEEEP! Morning. Again. This house makes time stop. And like a loop, you can’t get out. I sit up wincing as I sat up and grabbed the back of my head. There was a swelling bump there. I must've hit the wall again. Seriously I don't know how I do it anymore. The bed isn't even touching the wall. BEEEEEEP! s**t. I slowly get up shaking away the dizziness that made black spots appear and shuffled to the dresser to turn off the alarm.     “Girl! Why is my shower not on?!” I heard my step-mother yell. I rolled my eyes and hustled downstairs to get HER shower started. Seriously all you have to do is turn the knob and water comes down. But life had other plans and was especially set on making me suffer. As I ran into her hotel-like room I speed-walked and started the shower hoping against all things that I could prevent any collisions.      Did I tell you that the world hates me? Yeah, well Sarah was standing in front of me when I turned around. “Listen here, b***h if I wake up without the sound of water running one more time…”     “I’m sorry” I whispered. Sarah grabbed my chin and I continued looking down. I had to play the part of weak and scared. She watched my face trying to gauge my reaction. She let me go and hit me with more force than I knew she was capable of. I felt the sting and could tell that there would be a hand-print there. She let me go when she saw blood and pushed me away.     “Don’t make a mess in my bathroom. Go get ready for school and don't be late.” I shivered from the harshness of her voice. And walked away holding my cheek. The second I was out of the doorway I ran to ‘my’ bathroom. So, basically, the least renovated room that just happened to have a toilet in it and stared in the cracked mirror.**flash** Mom standing behind me brushing my hair… telling me how beautiful I am **flash** The day Dad told me Sarah made him happy **flash** The first day in my new ‘room’ only a week after Sarah and Dad married **flash** The day Dad stopped looking at me as a daughter and more like a slave **flash** I stood there blinking back tears and went to my room I put on my usual baggy sweatshirt and leggings. I ran all the way to Kendall's house. Walking into her house through the front door the way I can’t at my own house.     “NIGHTSHADE!” Kendall screeched jumping on my back thinking she could scare me but I had already flipped her onto the couch before she could do anything I knew she would regret later.     "What have I told you about calling me by my other name?" I ask keeping a serious expression on my face.     "Not to use it anywhere other than 'the other place' because there are people everywhere," Kendall said a bleak look on her face.     "Good now get your fatass of the couch and get dressed we have... Holy s**t you best move fast we have 15 minutes to get to school!" I said checking my watch which says we have a good 45 minutes to get to school. But if she wasn't going to follow one of my only requirements to be my best friend then she needed to know what I could do. She quickly got off the couch and rushed up the stairs as I relaxed on the couch to wait.
