Chapter five: Different sides

Darren quickly jumped in front of Kyley and shifted back into his lycan form, preparing to face the threat head on. "Rargh!!" "Arrghhh!!!" He stood his ground on his hind legs, snarling back at the pack of lycans that surrounded them. His blood red eyes burned in fury-- there was nothing but the intent to kill in them. Darren bared his long, sharp claws and deadly fangs out, ready to brawl. Being an Alpha, the pack of lycans were cautious of Darren and as such, they didn't attack irrationally. Instead, they slowly circled around him as if calculating the right time to pounce in on an attack while trying to intimidate in numbers with low growls and snarls. The tension in the air grew tense by the passing minute, causing Kyley's breath to seize for a moment. Her heart raced wildly, and blood rushed to her head. She could sense that a frenzied bloodbath clash was imminent. Any time now... " Rargh!" Suddenly, A lycan whose brown fur was shaded dark by the night, jumped out from the nearby bush into the clearing, standing in between Darren and the other ambushing pack of lycans. Its sudden appearance startled both Darren and the lycans, causing them to take a cautious step back. However, Darren composed himself the moment he saw the lycan clearly. Besides, it had its back turned to him. " Grrrr!" Facing the ambushing pack of lycans, it growled as if to threaten them all not to take one more step closer. And in an instant, it shifted into its human form; a tall lanky man emerged after a short moment of bone crackling... It was Zeeb! " Stand back! I'll handle this!" He commanded! The pack of lycans whined hesitantly, but they ceased to approach Darren any further. Seeing this, Zeeb quickly turned to face Darren and said, " Darren, please listen to me. There's no need to fight ourselves to death out here..." He begged. Kyley was confused as to what was going on but dared not interfere. Although she understood that the tall man was trying to make peace and settle things, she just didn't understand why. Besides, she couldn't put her head around it, but it really seemed like she'd seen this man before! Or at least, his voice sounded somewhat familiar... Just as she wondered, she suddenly saw Darren shift as well, his gaze full of fury and rage. " Where is my daughter?" Darren asked word for word in a grim tone, taking a step forward as he commanded for an answer. There was no room for negotiations! Despite the number of these lycans, Darren wasn't threatened at all. In fact, he was so angry that the only thing he wanted to do right now was to kill them all! It wasn't that he respected Zeeb enough to calm down and talk. No! Darren doesn't give a damn about him! He only wanted to know of his daughter's whereabout and that's why he was willing to compromise and talk for now. " I can guarantee you that she's very safe. She's being held hostage by the leader until you show up in front of him. That's why we're here. Our duty is to only bring you to him" Zeeb informed slowly, his voice a bit apprehensive as he conveyed. Darren frowned at this, staring at Zeeb with a disgusted expression. " I know. I'm sorry, Darren. I really am! But you know how the leader can be", Zeeb added sincerely. He could tell that Darren was annoyed by the fact that he played a part in all of this. But he figured Darren wasn't an unreasonable kind. He realized he could avoid conflict and unnecessary killing of his clan members if he said things this way. Darren snared at Zeeb's words, feeling his rage build at every sentence of the tall lanky man before him. Not that he didn't understand Zeeb but he was just pissed off at the moment. After all, his daughter was being held hostage by her very own grandfather! " Fine! I'll come with you..." Darren nodded several seconds later " But none of you should get in my way once I get to that bastard, or I swear I'll not spare any of your lives!" He warned with gritted teeth, glaring at every lycan present. Feeling his dangerous glare and aura, they all took a step back in and whined at his threat. He is an Alpha, and they very well felt his threat at the core of their very existence. They knew he was capable of doing what he'd just said! Darren didn't wait around for any of their reaction. He grabbed Kyley, gently carried her on his back and shifted back into his Lycan form before speeding off towards Lunaria. Seeing how ruthless and dangerous her man could be, Kyley felt a bit perplexed. She felt like Darren was a totally different person at the moment, a side of his that she'd never seen before. It was somewhat, hot! However, she didn't meddle as he was more focused on getting to Lunaria. Kyley quickly shook the awkward thoughts off her mind. What matters now is that we get Skye back! She said to herself in a low mutter. Zeeb seeing Darren leave without attacking any of them heaved a sigh of relief and gave the others a threatening gaze not to meddle. He shifted back into his lycan form and followed behind Darren along with the others. They all headed towards Lunaria. ... Paige sat staring out the window at the other pack members as they laughed and jollied outside the residence with bottles in hands. Ever since the fall of Jason three years ago, this had been the state of the Moonblood pack members. Alpha Alphonse and Nicole had transformed the pack into a safe haven. There were no more pack raids, and uptight lifestyle of violence. All efforts were only put into survival of the werewolf race and a more enjoyable environment. However, several other problems remained. " I heard those bloody bastards killed another four of our pack members in the last week?" " Yeah, I wonder what Alpha Alphonse has in plan for them." Paige heard them discuss about the insurgence of a new pack in town. They called themselves the Ravaging Marauders, and had been killing several members of the Moonblood pack in the past few months every now and then. Apparently, it seemed that they were one of the many other werewolf packs chased out of the big cities, and were now aiming to take over the residence as their new place of settlement. Once again, the vicious cycle of pack fights and survival games continues... As to what the other person said regarding Alphonse's plans, Paige also found herself wondering what the answer to that could be? Although Alphonse had invited her to discuss about it with the others, Paige had outrightly declined participation as she had other things bothering her at the moment. Besides, ever since the death of Jason three years ago, Paige had realized that the dangerous life of a werewolf pack member wasn't what she yearned in the least. She wanted something else entirely. Something different. Paige wanted to belong somewhere. She wanted to mean something to someone. Just like... ' Kyley...' In the end, she found herself trailing after Kyley's shadow once again. Having been envious of the weak omega who was once Jason's mate in the past, Paige thought that she'd always fallen behind Kyley in life. However, after finding out about Jason's abusive nature and realizing that Jason wasn't the mate she thought him to be, Paige struggled to find a purpose. Now she wanted peace, just like Kyley had with Darren. She wanted to mean so much to someone such that they'd risk their life and fight against all odds for her like Darren did for Kyley. ' In a sense, I'm still following right behind her... And the only one I really have left' Paige flashed a wry smile at the thought of Kyley being like a sister to her. In some way, she felt that Kyley was the only person she had left whom she could really say was close to her. Paige suddenly had the urge to contact Kyley, but then her face stiffened as she looked to the cradle in the room where a boy slept peacefully. ' I wonder if she'll ever accept him...' Paige heaved a deep sigh and expressed grief. ...
