It was already dawn when they finally made it past the Weeping meadow and started towards the second part of their journey towards Lunaria.
As Darren dashed through the foggy wilderness in his fearsome lycan form, Kyley clung tightly onto his fur, riding on his back.
They hadn't taken a single second to stop for a break ever since they started on this journey and as such, it was only natural that they had covered so much distance considering they'd left their home immediately Kyley found something to put on-- which was apparently unnecessary for Darren, since his clothes would have snapped into pieces the moment he shifted into his lycan form anyway.
Despite rummaging through the forest like an impeding disaster, felling feeble trees, snapping twigs, and digging trails in the dirts with every pounce of his paws, Darren's golden ringed eyes still possessed astute intelligence as they seem to scan around the wilderness every now and then, as if searching in trace of something while also looking out-- perhaps for a possible ambush.
However, it shouldn't take a genius to notice that he wasn't really in the best of moods at present.
As a matter of fact, it would be safe to say that if anyone tried to get in Darren's way at the moment, it definitely wouldn't be the brightest move, and neither would it end too well for them.
There was just so much frustration and anger in him right now, and it all stemmed from the fact that Darren's own father was behind his daughter's abduction!
On the other hand, Kyley felt the same way. But hers was more of confusion, doubt, fear, and worry.
She knew for a fact that Darren would have to go against his own father if it was the case.
And that's just... plainly terrible!
Kyley didn't want that for her man. She never would!
But alas...
' If he could do such a thing to his very own son, then what am I even thinking?... That man probably doesn't give a s**t about us!' Kyley was torn at this thought. She never thought that Darren would have such a jerk of a father.
After all, what kind of a father would subject their own son to so much torture.
However, when she thought about it, Kyley realized Darren's father was probably 'that' kind of father.
' Hell! He left Darren for dead out here in the middle of nowhere, wasn't that enough!?'
At this point, Kyley was frustrated. She couldn't believe a father could be so cruel to his son.
It's just infuriating!
She never knew her father, and her mother was only there for her to a certain point. But still, Kyley didn't think that a father should be this way.
No one deserves a father like this!
' And just how much has he been going through?... Just how much did he have to endure?' Kyley wrapped her hands around Darren's broad nape, gently scratching his rough scruff as if to comfort him.
Darren felt Kyley's warm embrace soothe his raging heart just in the right spot. His growls softened and his tail wagged about in delight.
He could feel the sincere and genuine concern that Kyley had for him through their bond.
And for someone who'd lived his whole life up to this point with no one showing him this much love and care, it most certainly meant the whole world to him.
' Don't worry, I'll put an end to this very soon. Then you'll never have to worry again, my love!' Darren thought to himself, growling in intense conviction as he dashed even faster through the woods.
Kyley's lips couldn't help but spread into a glad smile at Darren's newfound resolve.
Nonetheless, her heart remained restless. Things were very complicated at the moment, and she could tell that Darren wouldn't stop at any means to get Skye back.
Even though she'd felt the same way when she lost both of her parents, Kyley felt that Darren was probably having it worse. After all, his father was still alive, yet, making a hell out of his life.
He could tell just how mad Darren must be right now.
Of course, it'd hurt... Of course he was right to be mad.
She could tell Darren probably wanted to kill his father. However, she'd never allow that!
She'd never let Darren fall into that abysmal misery.
' We're only getting our daughter back... That's all!' Kyley steeled her heart, swearing to protect Darren.
' Together... we're-'
" Grrr!"
Kyley's thoughts were cut short when Darren halted on his dash forward.
' What's going on?' She raised a skeptical frown.
Whoosh! whoosh! Whoosh!
Snap! snap!
All of a sudden, the bushes around started rustling, and there were sounds of twigs and dry leaves crackling everywhere.
" Rrr! Arrh! Arrh!"
Before Kyley could voice out a query, she suddenly heard low gnarls coming from the depths of the woods.
They came from everywhere, all around!
" Aouu- ouuu!"
"Ooou- Oooo- Ooo!!"
Kyley's heart dropped in a beat, racing by the second as the howls became incessant.
Danger!
That was all she could think of.
Out of fear, she searched about frantically, wanting to ascertain just what the threat was coming from.
Left, right, front, back!
They were surrounded!
For a while, Kyley lost her sense of self as she went into panic mode.
Crackle! Crackle!
It wasn't until when she heard bones cracking and the fur she held unto becoming flesh and muscles, that she finally got out of her lost daze.
" Stay close behind me!" Seeing that Darren had shifted back and was now standing in front of her to face the threat, Kyley nodded meekly and quickly hid behind him.
Meanwhile, several monstrously huge wolf-like figures with glowing raging, wild eyes, paired with jagged rows of gruesomely sharp, discolored fangs leapt out from the bushes.
"Ghrr!" " Argh-rrha!" They all growled and snarled as they slowly approached in ambush, scaring Kyley shitless.
At this moment, she realized that she had underestimated the severity of the situation at hand.
Saving their daughter, wouldn't be as easy as she thought!
