One of the most popular events for movie fans during the annual awards season is the Academy Awards, the largest gathering of the world's top movie stars.
On January 14, 1998, the Oscar nominations were announced as promised, and the hottest topic was of course Titanic, which led the Academy Awards with 14 nominations.
Now Titanic is not the big ship that was ridiculed by the crowd when it was released in its first week, it raised eyebrows when he drew $35 million in his second week instead of dropping, and even more marvelously, sustained $33 million in his third week!
By now it was mid-January and Titanic was still quietly sucking in money, with costs already recouped and a total box office of $300 million.
Fox executives are finally not ready to jump, Cameron does not have to follow the big ship sinking, as for a group of actors, but also smooth off the bad reputation of box office poison.
As everyone expected before - it would take a miracle to save this bad movie.
Titanic is still grossing over twenty million dollars a week and sitting at the top of the North American box office.
With its popularity at this point, there's no telling how long it will be before the movie drops, so maybe it's a miracle.
When exactly the big ship will be downgraded and how many hundreds of millions it will end up making at the box office has been one of the most talked about topics in recent days.
As for the other hot topics, they're a bit more varied - the
For example, the nation's No. 1 arms dealer, Tony Stark, shut down his weapons manufacturing division, causing an uproar.
He does not sell weapons to develop new energy sources, so people did not expect, but in a short period of time, vaguely look like a successful transition.
On the other hand, an Iron Man who wears a full mech to fight criminals has suddenly appeared in Los Angeles recently.
The Man of Steel came out of nowhere and, along with Metropolis' Superman and Gotham's Batman, became the media's favorite mysterious person to cover.
That wasn't even one of the most shocking things, the one thing that really sent the whole country into a frenzy of discussion was - I hear Captain America is now awakening after crashing into the Arctic Ocean for over half a century?
One of the most iconic representatives of the American spirit, Captain America's heroism in World War II made him a legend, saving New York and turning the tide of war, but crashing into the Arctic Ocean on his last mission.
All in all, the recent trending topics are literally on your side, and they are so hateful that they will shake you to your core.
Let's get back to the Academy Award nominations--
After Titanic, The Story of Adele Hugo and Mindhunter tied with nine, L.A. Confidential and As Good As It Gets followed with seven, and another comedy, The Winning Streak, received four nominations.
In the Best Actress race, the nominated finalists are Julie Christie for "The Wife Swap Game," Judi Dench for "Mrs. Brown," Kate Winslet for "Titanic," Helen Hunt for "As Good As It Gets," and Margaret Ajani for "The Story of Adele Hugo.
Interestingly, with the exception of Helen Hunt, the lead actress of "As Good As It Gets," who is American, three of the other nominees are British and the other is a French girl.
And as the nominations were announced, Ajani's chances of winning the award rose higher and higher.
Just a few days later, the Oscars' most important weathervane, the annual U.S. Golden Globe Awards for Film and Television, opened as promised.
Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California.
"We're coming to you live from the star-studded International Ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel for the 55th Annual Golden Globe Awards for Motion Pictures and Television, and ladies and gentlemen, please welcome tonight's host - Conan O'Brien."
The long-legged hunk with the red hair, small eyes, and freckles is definitely the hottest talk show host around these days, and he has been asked to be the host of the Golden Globes today.
"My God, look at all these movie industry beauties, are my eyes right, they're willing to share a room with a TV personality," Conan O'Brien raised his eyebrows, "You see, only the Golden Globes are so glamorous. Tonight, we'll be honoring television shows that have been on the air all year, and movies that have just been in theaters for two days."
It wasn't an empty sarcastic remark; in fact, every year, many movies were rushed into theaters at the end of the year in order to rush the awards, followed by being taken off the air a few days later.
If they're lucky enough to make it through the awards season, distributors can naturally rely on the fame they've gained and release the movie again to make enough money at the box office.
With Conan O'Brien's humor livening things up, the camera panned down to the table where the cast of Titanic was, followed by The Story of Adele Hugo and Mindhunter.
Unlike other award shows, the Golden Globes ceremony is a meal while the awards are being handed out, and the wine and food, along with the unique table decorations, make the Golden Globes look more like a big party, with the difference being that he's attended by thousands of Hollywood celebrities.
The entire international ballroom star-studded, the whole of the United States and the world's best film and television people, stuffed the table under the stage.
One of the more delightful things about the Golden Globes is that he doesn't discriminate against box office blockbusters, but at the same time is official enough - as a forward-looking Academy Award, it's always been popular with Olympians from all sides.
"Regarding beauty in the movie business, seriously," quipped Conan O'Brien, "the first time I saw Ajani in person, I literally suspected that she and I weren't the same species, and that God had been a little too dedicated when he created her."
With Conan's voice, the audience in front of the television, once again, saw Margaret Ajani close-up on the screen -
Her long seaweed-like hair covered a bit of her collarbone, and her classical face, which could be called perfect, was mesmerizing, not to mention those deep-sea blue eyes, and the gown she was wearing was even that charming blue color.
Golden Globes atmosphere has always been more relaxed, Margot did not pick a heavy grand dress, almost simple blue silk dress, hard to be worn by her extraordinary style, and even the snow white skin lining more confusing, murdering countless Filene.
Conan O'Brien soon ended his humorous introductory remarks by introducing the first guest to introduce Titanic, which was nominated for Best Feature Film.
Awards ceremonies are always long, and nearly two hours passed before the stage was graced with a new guest of honor, Australian actor Geoffrey Rush, who won the Golden Globe and Golden Statue in early 1997 for "Shining Style".
He was about to present the award for Best Actress in a Drama.
And Margaret Ajani is one of the candidates.
"Five exceptional actresses were nominated in the Best Actress in a Drama category - Judi Dench for Mrs. Brown, Jodie Foster for Contact in Extraordinary Circumstances, Jessica Lange for Stranger in a Strange Land, Kate Winslet for Titanic, and Margaret Ajani for the Golden Globe for- "The camera swept through them one by one, with a noticeably bigger reaction as Judi Dench and Adjani were read.
"As I expected," Geoffrey Rush opened the letter looking awestruck, "she made history - Margaret Ajani!"
Thousands of people applauded in the International Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel.
Judi Dench, who had been famous in the international movie industry since the mid-eighties, was the first to offer her congratulations, and several other candidates froze for a second and applauded as well, with the camera and the radio already all focused on Ajani.
Margot, after hugging François Truffaut and Jude Law, walked onto the stage, her silk skirt flowing like a dream, elegant and dynamic.
She took the trophy from Geoffrey Rush, exchanged a sweet kiss with him, and then stood in front of the stentorian microphone.
"First of all, thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and thank you to Director Truffaut, if it wasn't for your greatness, I wouldn't have chosen to be in the movie."
"And to all the film's creators, you have made this extraordinary film possible, and to my co-star, the handsome, charming and passionate Jude Law, who portrayed Pinzón in the best possible light and is a true acting genius."
She also didn't forget to praise the outstanding acting skills of the other candidates, holding the trophy and finally mentioning a few of the staff around her, "Thank you to my agent, Mr. Brian Lord, as well as my assistant, Grant Ward, and most assuredly my friend, Logan, who have been the smooth bedrock on which I have walked the path of my dream movie, and who will be my friends forever. "
Margo bowed gracefully in salute then stepped off the stage, taking each step with such poise that the film and television professionals in the audience and those watching the live broadcast finally and truly realized that -
Margaret Adjani made history by taking the Golden Globe crown, the youngest Golden Globe actress was born!
Gosh, after successfully taking down the academy awards, can she make history again by topping the Oscars?
And a couple of men sitting in front of the TV are thinking different thoughts--
Tony Iron Man Stark: This heartless woman! Why don't you thank me?
Charles White Lotus Spirit - Xavier: Maybe it's time to move Logan back, shouldn't the most reliable friend be the only one who knows about her life? Little Margo doesn't seem to think things through very well.
Stephen Bad Temper Strange: really shouldn't have saved her, not even a thank you.
Bruce Black Bat-Wayne: Not mentioning Stark was kinda satisfying.
Agent Ward and Wolverine Logan don't know what anyone else is thinking, and both seem to be in a good mood.
Even Logan's expression of not to be messed with was much gentler.
As for the Titanic table on the other side of the Golden Globes, Leonardo DiCaprio, who had just recently broken up with his girlfriend, pondered - wasn't he more handsome and charming than Jude Law? Would Margaret say yes if he asked her to ride his bike?
