Jacob´s pov.
We were chocked that Dragol woke up like he did. And he wanted to leave the hospital, right then. As he didn´t want to stay there. I had a feeling that the cause is the secrets he hold. The ones of his past and his people. Even if I have got a few pieces laid out of the puzzle that he is. My wife and kids left the room to get something to drink, for him. I gave him a stern talking. If he want to hide the truth of that he is not a human. He should atleast stay at the hospital for a few days. So that the doctor can check upon him. And I told him the staff that had worked on him, have all swored an oath to me, as they were wolfs, to not tell anyone of what they have seen in that room. It was like he just woked up after a long, very long sleep. Ready to do his work, as usual.
So here we are now. A week has past sínce then. And today he will be discharged from the hospital. A week is not a long time. But it seemed it was for Dragol. I have learned this week, that he really don´t like to be hold in place. Being kept from his freedom. Mick told me many times over how mad and furious, he was at the evening. And I had learned from my best warriors that I had ordered to watch Dragol. That Dragol had tried at four different occasions, to get out of the hospital. For holding his freedom hostage, I am feeling a tiny bit of regret for. But I did this for his secrets. Not mine, HIS. He may not see it like that. I look at the clock, it is almost noon. He should come soon. I look to the entrance. Scouting after anything that will tell me that he is on his way. Then I see him. You can´t miss him really, as he is big as a house. Towering over most people with his height of 8´0. And his wide shoulders and chest. All of him speaks tells that he are one who likes to work with his body. I wave to get his attention. So I wave. His steps turn to me. His brows are low, the lips pressed hard together. And I realize that what Mick said was just a part of the truth. Soon enough he stands infront of me. Most had been frightened by his build. Together with the facial expression. but not me. He let out a breath. "Never again, Jacob."
He said those words with a hardness liked to steel. Then stepped past me. I feel how my truck moved. Of the fender I I rose, as I had leaned on it. I shake my head as I jumped into the driverseat. The passenger seat are empty. But I know he is on the truck. Becouse I ca see him in the rearview mirror. He is sitting on the flatbed. Like he always has done, when I made him go with me somewhere. A smal smile are on my lips. That he doesn´t like the modern world, is amusing. And are one of the few things I know about my stranger to friend. I start the engine. It roars to life. I drive listening to the radio. As always when we drive, I can see that Dragol are just looking to the sky. The way I take is a detour. As I want to drag out the time it takes to get to the crest homestead. Wanting to give the pack so much time as possible to get the house finished. The news traveled fast in our town, that Dragol has regained consciousness. Making most to be aware that he has no home. So in one week, we finished the exterior and interior of the cabin. And started to put in furniture. The interior and the furniture that we choose is simple and made of natural material. Real wood, stone and so on. I hope that he will like what we has done. We all wanted to thank him for his sacrifice. "I geuss that he is just in deep thought." I think glad. Becouse he has not said anything about that it has taken longer than usual to get to his future home. The wheels hit, the dirtroad that leads to the crest homestead. The forest are so still, if you compare from that day. I rushed to get to Dragol. Just inside the forest edge, I stop the car. And jump out.
Dragols voice boom. "Why did you stop here?" It was laced with a tone of anger.
"I thought that you wanted to walk the rest of the way." I shrug, trying to hold back my smile.
Dragol looked at me with squinting eyes. "I guess, that would be good."
He jumped of the truck. The way he did it. It was like he was a bit used to move like that. He streatched his body fully. I heard the ligiments pop and snap as they got streatched. I guess he is stiff from the bedrest. Without a second word, he started to walk. I had to jog, a bit, to get up by his side. He huffs. I can feel his irritation role of him. And agony. I get chocked when we left the wood. Dragol didn´t look up at all. His gaze are lowered, to the ground. "Can he not look up." We has almost walked half of the way to the farm. He has still not looked up at all. I am in disbelief. My head I shake, not believing this at all.
"Can you not look up?" I ask, and succeded in not letting my frustration show.
Dragol huffed. "Why?" He let out a sigh. And stopped. He turned slowly to me. "Why should I?" His voice beared his feelings sorrow and grief. "I know the damage, that has been done." He turned his gaze down again, as he turned around and walk again. "I have seen the damage fires do to houses before." He sighed in what I guess is despair. "Just need to get started on rebuilding again!"
I am not saying any more words. He will find out, for himself. He walks up to the newly growing grass. Suddenly I saw how is body get tense and stiffer. I can clearly see that his nose is working, as it is flaring. He had just walked past all of the people that had worked hard to restore the farm for his sake. I looked on in a state of agony, hope, despair and expectation. Dragols hands formed fists. I could almost feel it in him how his body started to prepare him to fight. Slow, goddam slow, he lifted his head. He threw it side to side slowly. Trying to find a route to take if this goes bad. As he are doing that, a small girl came rushing from the crowd. She jumped up on him. His posture relaxes. The fists unfolds hesitant. His expression soften by the second. He ruffles my daughters hair. Then, just then, his eyes wander over the buildings he thought were burned down to the ground. I walk up to my friend. He throw glanzes between the buildings that are standing proudly and me. "How?"
That small breath coming from him. Made a few of the bystanders chuckle. Even I was smiling greatly. It was a great contrast to his big bodyframe. "We wanted to thank you for your sacrifice in that fight." I said with the smile brimming on my lips.
"I am confused." Dragol say frowning. "Why thank me for something, that any one should do?"
This man is really special. I am baffled at his question. "This place was burned down." I said high, getting responces from the crowd. "Dragol, you helped us greatly. And you were hurt badly for it." He is still looking at me confused. "It was our honor to rebuild this place for you." My choice of words, made the crowd shout agreeing. And Dragol to nod. "Let´s go inside, so you can check the place out."
"I guess." Dragol says confused, not knowing what to say.
I smile as I bend my daughter of Dragol. "Let´s go then." I say low to Dragol. "The womens are preaparing a great feast to congratulate you from being discharged from the hospital."
"It was you that forced me to stay there this week, you know!" Dragol growled lowly back to me. I chuckle lighty as we walk to the cabin. My pack open a passage for us.
