This sort of monitoring was rolled out in Europe several years earlier and was starting to come into effect in America, although it had met significant resistance. The hotel Samir was staying at was a small, family-owned business that looked like it was struggling to stay afloat. The paint work should have been updated a few years earlier, the blinds were reminiscent of the seventies, the heat barely worked, and the entire room smelled of mold.
